I'm curious what he's done differently to turn back the clock, but it doesn't feel fair to question not trading for him at the time.
It was an idea kicked around a few months back, so just an obvious trivia/curiosity/footnote now.

Tuesday, indeed. I think the Tigers are due for some good bounces.

Blaming Ilitch is a cop-out for what Harris did this past offseason and trade deadline.

Ilitch didn't give Alex Cobb $15 million. Ilitch didn't trade for the remainder of Charlie Morton's $15 million salary. Ilitch isn't the one who signed Maeda, who has $10 million in dead money on the cap. It wasn't Ilitch who pushed to sign Kahnle for $7.75 million.

Ilitch isn't the one who has a reputation of being difficult to deal with among rival GMs with outrageous asking prices for his prospects. Ilitch didn't botch the E-Rod trade negotiations a couple years ago.

I haven't heard of an Ilitch mandate to not trade ANYONE worth a damn on the farm.

Do you think Ilitch is the one obsessed with going after old pitchers and hoping to wring one final season out of them?

I'll say this before this week plays out: at least one of Riley Greene or Kerry Carpenter needs to be traded this offseason.

They are unplayable against lefties. Both guys have an OPS around .625 this season against LHP.

I can't see either of them moving. Greene is their biggest "star" as a hitter. He has had a really good year overall. Carp is the player with the most power in the lineup. Both are making next to nothing and have two arb years left. Would be stupid not to keep them both on the roster.

Free agents coming off the books are Cobb (15 mil), Kahnle (8 mil), and Maeda (10 mil). None of those are coming back. The bigger question is what are they doing with Torres (15 mil)? Are we resigning him, I think he will get a few offers during the off season.

Only two more years of Baez left!!!

Hey Tigers, do us a favor and sweep the Guardians. It'd be mutually beneficial. Thanks.

“on the cap” - what sport are we discussing here?

I told a friend of mine when Greene was on a heater I thought they'd be proactive and move Carpenter in the offseason based on the amount of LHH they have and have coming towards the outfield positions and his age relative to everyone else on the team (a tick older while still young), but Greene's ice cold play since then at least makes it interesting (though also the wrong time to try and move him)

It would be a Scott Harris special to not be proactive.

So has Ilitch allowed either GM to spend money? He got burned on Baez and never again. Both GM’s not surprisingly have the same philosophy “grow and promote within”! Where does that philosophy originate from? Who is hiring these GMs? Neither GM trades away their prospects for ready talent.

Within those constraints can they have acquired slightly better players possibly. However, players want to play in locations with better tax benefits or big markets where they can earn more money through marketing.

What a meltdown by Skubal. That longsnap to first was insane but he was clearly shaken up by what happened to Fry.

I don't like Ilitch either but they had a 6/$171 million offer on the table for Bregman and that was after wasting money on Cobb and Kahnle, plus signing Torres and Flaherty.

Harris has been a terrible judge of talent at the Major League level. He also COMPLETELY botched the ERod trade deadline a couple years ago.

He squared around to bunt. Skubal's pitch caught him square on the nose. Obviously dropped immediately bleeding.

Took a Skubal fastball to the face after mostly whiffing on a bunt attempt (he deflected it up into his nose).

Got drilled in the face. It wasn't all on Skubal. Fry leaned into bunt and just a freak accident. But it clearly shook Skubal up. The next pitch was wild and scored the tying run.

You don't recover from an implosion like this. Look at the Twins from last year to this season. This will leave lasting scar tissue on this group.

Harris has to shake the roster up this winter.

An unfathomable and embarrassing collapse. I'm just not seeing this team win another game in 2025.

If I’m Skubal and his agent Scott Boras I would demand a trade this winter and get off this team.

Officially tied with the Guardians now. And they have the tie breaker. Feel like they can win tomorrow. Guardians may have a big emotional drop after tonight's win. What a collapse!!

I think the only ones with the big emotional drop are our Tigers. Man, this hurts. This is worse than 06 or 09. They blew a 10 game lead in 2 weeks. It doesn't even seem possible.

I mean, last night was a microcosm of this run. 2 run lead: bunt, bunt (stupid Skubal error), swinging bunt, wild pitch after almost breaking a guys face, balk and you lose the lead. Tigers finding dumb ways to lose and the Guardians having the most charmed run you'll ever see.

What the actual hell was that!? You are up by two runs against your divisional rival and trying to survive the most epic collapse of all-time. Get the out. That was rough.
