i think they keep running out of 130 pt and are using 180 pt cases on alot of cards.

i have varying thicknesses on the cases.

you used to need way big cameras to see the catchers fingers from across the stadium. technology has came along way.

Wow, so many posts this afternoon/evening.

Thoughts:
Congrats Graz on the Trout "A/P"!

The artists will do what they want; clearly every card is not for everyone. Matt McCormick's cards so far are boring and not what I was expecting and hoping for, but he's got 17 more to go.

I think there were possibly issues with the Topps site depressing the PRs for Friday's cards [and perhaps to a lesser extent, Thursday's and Wednesday's]. I don't know if I would have pulled the trigger, but as I mentioned before, those APs were staring me in the face but I couldn't access them.

Andrew Thiele is not doing it for me with his player choices this go around. The Reggie is fine; I'm just trying to be choosy. I
know we'll get them but we don't need more Judges, Mantles, Trouts, etc. That includes Mookie Betts, regardless of uniform.

I would rather have MORE Dodgers and Yankees as long as they were new players, than repeats of who we've already had. Hence, my relative excitement over the Matsui today being the day's best card. DJ Lemahieu, Duke Snider, Don Sutton, Wade Boggs, Gerrit Cole et al are much preferable than a repeat to me at this point. Obviously, cards from every team would be ideal, but I still contend a Marlin seems doubtful.

I am hopeful that there will be a "diamond in the rough" more days than not moving forward with 4 card days. Suppose today was a nice break to not get any, despite liking the Matsui [again, I have to draw the line somewhere].

I have no complaints if the returning 19 want to do Mantle since the 52 topps should have been apart of P2020

They can do it too if they want, but it doesnt mean I'll buy them. I view the p2020 artists doing Mantle as like an addendum to p2020.

Sigh I proposed an Altuve with the trash can in the background but got shot down.

And yet...

Presumed Top-5 2022 NBA Draft Pick (and number 1 national recruit for Gonzaga) Chet Holmgren actively promotes himself as the "Slim Reaper".

I want the kid to succeed but at least get a friend or a family member with ties to marketing to drum up something unique. I usually reserve most of my NCAA Hoops vitriol for Duke and every team in the Big XII that isn't my alma mater (Texas) but this kid's forcing me to actively root against Gonzaga until he picks a unique nickname. I've read his justification is that he picked it up because KD "abandoned it" which is just a horrible reason to steal a great nickname.

Chet Holmgren - on the off chance you're an active member of the Blowout Forums and a huge fan of art cards, here's some free advice: take a few laps and use them to think of literally any other nickname that involves a pun for a tall, skinny kid who's deathly from deep. Oh, and stay away from that McCormick guy. He puts less effort into his cards than you do with your nickname!

i have never heard that. i guess i quit being a fan after he left okc. they always called him durrantula here (i hated that name so much, i bet kd did too). its prolly the real reason he left. its likely was likely in his golden state contract, you cannot call me durrantula.
It shocks me... I mean SHOCKS me that Stoned Collector isn't aware that Kevin Durant is the Slim Reaper. Than again, it amazes me how much a self-professed herb connoisseur like SC could manage to drop this much money on art cards. In college (and maybe a few years afterward), I would've been looking at each 3-card drop and saying to myself "Hmm, an eighth of Jack Frost or this 3-card print-on-demand pack of purposely off-centered Tommy Lasorda with tentacles, Aaron Judge with 14 fingers and jaundice and Cal Ripken popping out to second" before laughing my ass off and calling my guy.

SC - you do have a pretty good read on KD though. He's my favorite guy in the League but he's both notoriously thin-skinned and not quite as notoriously gracious/humble. I think he's always said he just prefers KD to any of the other nicknames. In public he said he didn't like Slim Reaper because of the association with death but I'm guessing in private he pulls up one of his two dozen alt twitter accounts and just likes every comment referencing The Slim Reaper. As far as nicknames go, it's pretty fitting.

This prism effect for a colorful card like the Acuna Pardee (I'd imagine the Ermsy Dock Ellis too) really makes it stunning in-hand. I also have a hard time parting with cards, but I did see the potential for this card to be somewhat iconic so I bought two. I'm an Astros guy buy I don't see P70 releasing much for me. We're in the hobby doghouse and we deserve it I guess. So now I'm riding with Acuna hobby wise. He's fun to watch.
Def does seem like this could end up being the card to remember from the set. I could see why you'd go foil over AP. Congrats on the pickup- I'm sure a lot of people out there are jealous right now!

Are we to imagine trout killed one with his bat and wears it's scull as a trophy?

Thiele is definitely talented but not all that crazy with his work he's put out for this set so far. Would be nice to not see another Judge either.

All this Pardee hype/love.....am I the only one that thinks his cards are meh? Is it overly cool for card collectors that aren't into comics maybe and this is so new that it's refreshing to them/some of you? Because I see this type of alien/somewhat similar art styles all the time as a comic collector and for me, I don't quite see the connection with baseball or baseball players.

You are not the only one. I thought the Acuna card was very cool and unique. The next two are nothing special to me. But to each their own. We are definitely in the minority here. I actually prefer Distortedd's set to Pardee's.

I like his cards so far but the companions aren't for me. I'm sure the blood foil will command some ridiculous price on ebay but it doesn't strike me as something I need in my life. He isn't necessarily my favorite new artist, either. But I appreciate the excitement he's generated and he certainly seems to be putting in the work.

I also appreciate the effort he has put forth, and the way he communicates with fans on social media. I don't have to necessarily be a huge fan of an artist's style to still appreciate what they bring to the set. And Pardee brings a ton.

Totally. And I'll take a true RC from him over another forgettable Griffey or unnecessary Judge any day.
