I have to say, after opening a couple mega boxes of this stuff, the quality control is absolutely unacceptable.

I've never seen so many poor conditioned cards straight out of packs. There are print lines and then there are scratches. I've got multiple cards with vertical scratch print lines running down the card. A Rui rc has one 2" long. I've got cards with thick horizontal print line indents on the backs. I've got scuffs, marks, and light scratches of all different kinds.

The thing that has made me slightly nervous is that for awhile blasters were impervious to the new stock of megas/hangers, holding at $100. Seems like on ebay price has dropped to $80 in the last couple of days, which was really inevitable. At $80, that’s still $2.50/card, which would imply $200 for a mega at $2.50/card... so still a good indicator once these stop being stocked.

Oh sweet, the earlier, the better IMO.

There was probably a little lag because people buying/selling the blasters didn't realize that hangers/megas configurations restocked again. If it weren't for BO or FB, I probably wouldn't have known either TBH.

As Eastbayak pointed out, you have to think in terms of $/card, because that is how the consumer will view it when making a decision on where to put their money. This not only plays out when comparing formats amongst Mosaic, but also in terms of alternative series like Prizm and Optic. Right now, Mosaic is ~$1.50/card due to the supply surge, Optic is ~$4/card, Prizm is ~$10/card. Do those relationships hold up long term? My thought would be no, and I'd expect them to trend closer together over time.

I don't remember what the Optic Megas dropped to when they had the brief reload, does anyone remember? Seems like they're back up to $160 range now so that might be a good barometer in terms of % return

I absolutely agree with you, especially the bolded. Patience is key but the rewards will come.

Regarding price per card, what's your assessment of each of the products (Prizm, Optic and Mosaic)? Which are priced right, undervalued or overvalued?

If Optic BKB megas consistently sells for $160, Mosaic BKB megas should recover fine. Optic BKB megas really only has the "Optic" name brand to offer since all Optic BKB retail products are generally crappy breaks.

Has anyone had issues with rookie variations? Have opened 2 megas and 5 hanger's since the restock and these are the only 2 other than 1 silver that had print issues.

The stamping is off center and everything is off by a few centimeters

So I bought a bit of the new relased stuff all aftermartket. Opened 16 hangers and 19 mega boxes. No numbered card or genesis in all that. Starting to think they aren't in there.... anyone else seen similar?

16 hangers and 19 megas and nothing? I would think either way there should be Genesis, numbered cards I’m more curious about.

They're in there. Someone I know (also on the boards) shared a pic of the LeBron Genesis he hit (also hit a Magic Johnson too, I believe)

I've opened various retail for a total of 1612 cards and hit 2 #'d and 3 Genesis. The #'d were from a blaster and a Cello, I don't believe Hangers have them and the Pinks from Megas are only #'d to 10 so I suspect those will be extremely hard to hit regardless (if you're trying to rule out the possibility of reprint)

First wave I opened about 600 cards from blasters and cellos, pulled 2 genesis and 1 numbered auto.

Would think numbered scripts should be available in any format? Yes, trying to rule out a reprint via numbered cards, someone has to pull one eventually if they are available.

*edit* looks like numbered scripts are listed as being available in megas but not hangers.

Wow, that doesn't seem statistically possible. Is there a way for really crafty people to look at the serial numbers on the outside of the box on these things and determine a "good" mega from a "bad" mega?

I would think out of 16 hangers and 19 megas or whatever he said, you should hit at least one genesis. I opened like 10 blasters and 15 cellos and hit 2 genesis, 1 numbered auto and 1 unnumbered auto. I might have ran a little hotter than average, but he opened a ton not to pull any.

It's retail and he probably picked them up at a bunch of different spots so he's just unlucky. It's like grabbing 24 retail packs from 24 different boxes, you could hit multiple auto's or 0 autos.

@dkcardman, just to clarify, you purchased/opened all that stuff on the current reload and hit ZERO short print? did you buy all from one seller, or many?

as far as hit rate, I hit one Genesis in the 5 Megas I've opened since reload. I think when we were breaking in volume during first phase, we estimated Genesis were hitting in 1/600 to 1/800 cards, which is like 1 per 8-10 megas. so going through 23 Mega-equivalents without one sucks, but isn't out of the realm of possibility.
