this will probably come back to haunt me, but there's absolutely nothing special about France at all

Very clear disadvantage in midfield and Saka is doing anything he wants.

still stand by it, France have been completely average

I said whomever won this match would probably go on to win the cup, but I'm not so sure now.

Choke job by Kane. There are misses and there are misses.

England really blew that. A lot of mistakes by France.

4 great storylines: Does Messi finally get one; do the battle hardened Croatians, led by Modric get revenge against France; do we get the greatest underdog story in WC history; does the torch pass wholly and unambiguously to Mbappe.

Now that England is out as per usual, the rest of the world can enjoy the World Cup.

I want Morocco to win. But I see France getting it unless the refs get involved for Messi. Croatia winning would be cool too.

Morocco players happily displaying flags for political purposes post their victories.

I’m not a particular fan of France but I, for one, certainly want Morocco to fall at the next hurdle. A stain on the World Cup.

Always fascinating to see how Europeans feel about other countries.

Iran rightly made a statement.

Germany made a statement.

Denmark made a statement.

USA made a statement.

Morocco have made a statement.

Congrats to Morroco... unreal

- End of an Era with CR
- France look too good, England really disappointed they needed to up the pace yesterday, looked like they were playing for PKs at times
- Good for Croatia and Modric
- Will Messi step up and punch their ticket through

the story lines so exciting!
As a Real Madrid supporter of longer than all of you have been alive (ok not really) will be happy for any of our current/past players (in particular Di Maria/Hakimi who signed my kit one time)

I actually thought that England played on the front foot and was the much better team yesterday. Deserved a better result. They got caught in transition after the ref didn’t call a clear foul on Saka and got beat on one good cross into the box, but otherwise they dominated the game. It was a much different performance than the performances against Italy in the Euros or the US in the group stage. I give them credit- thought they played to win. As a neutral, I am kind of bummed to see them go out because I actually think they are more enjoyable to watch than France.

Yea I agree. Once Portugal went out, and as I saw the game develop, the most compelling final for me was pretty easily Arg-Eng.

It's crazy to think that no matter who wins now, it's gonna be historic:

- Argentina wins and Messi has a very legit claim as the GOAT
- France wins and Mbappe looks like the next Pele
- Croatia win, becomes the smallest nation to win it in the modern era and Luka becomes a Top 10 player all time
- Morocco is quite obvious

Sounds like you were drinking too much gin & juice yesterday! (playing with you!) I don't think England dominated the game at all. They were just throwing themselves all over the goal area and looking for PKs because they knew that was the only way they could score against the French. They cried the whole game. The French, meanwhile, were playing beautiful football and scored two fantastic goals. This is the way the sport is supposed to be played.

I'm not saying he gets there. I'm not saying he's even close.

But at 24 years old with 2 World Cups, with 9 goals (or more) and a possible Golden (or Silver) Boot...he's the only one in recent history that has a chance to catch him.
