For someone doing an error card set, his understanding of what constitutes an error remains marginal at best.

If he had fit Rangers in it, I might have actually gotten it. I think its more fun than his past cards, not sure why its generating such strong hate.

I will be 0 for 8 after today. Know Pardee is coming out with a new card this week. Pretty sure there will be at least one from Naturel/Ermsy/Fucci as well

I kind of hope Bobby Hundreds comes on here and scolds them about respecting his vision.

I like the Bobby Hundreds, but I’m a sucker for collage work, probably why I like Thiele’s work, and that Siff Brett from P2020

Me too. The photoshopping stinks as well.

No matter your opinion good or bad, Hundreds at least gets people talking about his cards.

Someone ends up taking the blame on days like this. I agree that it isn't his worst work by a long shot, in terms of the photoshop work and the overall aesthetics of the card. It just doesn't seem much like an error card.

Hopefully no one turns up a shirtless glamour shot, lest havoc ensue

I’m with you. Seems fun. I kind of like the error theme.
It just doesn’t generate the kind of visceral reaction for me that it seems to trigger in others.

The Pedro should have been on the Red Sox. In 1967 Topps did a set of test stickers for the Red Sox and Pirates. That card would have fit in with the Clemente for Mayor card in that set.

Agree the Ryan card should have referenced all 4 of his teams. Reggie striking out should be a 2021 design since everyone is striking out this year.

He knows what an error card is. He is making extremely over the top error cards. Would you be more excited if he took a 1970s Nolan Ryan card and simply make the "n" in his last name an "m" so it said Nolan Ryam and do nothing else?

Not really. Didn't mean to make it sound like I revile the cards. They're just not for me. I get that some people really like them and that's cool. You're right that most people would find actual errors too boring to justify spending 20 bucks on them.

He commented on this on Blake's YouTube. He respects the haters' opinions and loves that they are passionate enough about something to have such strong opinions about his work--even if those opinions are negative.

He's super humble and seems like a genuinely awesome dude. He probably stopped losing sleep over internet opinions a long, long time ago.

I believe an artists work is fair game as well as their retorts. When things start getting personal it becomes an issue. For example, digging up old modeling pictures to berate an artist.

I have no problem with Bobby Hundreds as a person but his art is atrocious. He is well aware of my dislike of his work as we have had a Twitter exchange. I appreciate his thick skin.

I believe that Don C is doing all of his cards for the player's rookie teams.

This is really cool, and the comments are uplifting.

By the way, LT’s next drop is this Wed.

LT is amazing. Humbled that she took the time and energy to do this!

Jerry Manuel made his MLB debut on the Tigers.

I wonder who here doesn't take criticism of their work personally? I suppose that depends on what you do, but I'd imagine that most creative (and successful) people are tremendously invested in their work. So much so that it's a part of their identity.

I thought he used Dodgers to make the card a simple red, white, and blue. And probably to use a more fresh-out-of-high-school Pedro.

I agree with everyone that Red Sox would have been better. Even if it would have looked worse.

re Bobby Hundreds: I don't like his set, but this card earned a chuckle.

Criticism is part of any job. I’d feel let down if peers and others didn’t offer feedback on my work.

What usually is said on social media isn’t criticism though. I imagine most artists either have thick skin or don’t read comments. Sticking instead to feedback by those in their industry and critics.

Not trying to create an equivalence between peer critique and social media shenanigans. Was rather saying that I can sympathize with artists that equate people not liking a piece of their work with a personal slight. Putting yourself out there is hard and although (most of the time) the things we say are focused on the card rather than the artist, the line can be blurry.

Yes, I’d call much, not all but a lot of it, of the commentary here to be straight up dismissive, not criticism. Which would be fairly consistent with this forum. I’d put here as a place an artist shouldn’t go to unless they just really want to see themselves bashed. I say that even with enjoying some of the takes artists provide in this thread.

Also, why I just lurked on this forum for years. It’s a good place for news/takes but it can be a very negative place.

ah, well that theory is out the window then. I was mostly just basing it on Deion and Pedro haha

For sure. I started coming here around card 160 of P2020 and it did feel different, though there were still plenty of negative comments. A lot of the goodwill has eroded, which unfortunately can be related to decisions made by both Topps and the artists. I still support the work and enjoy the cards, but some of the magic is definitely gone. I think the bitterness is both that, and the direct financial harm caused by tanking the latter half of P2020. Anyone that was holding cards with PRs in the high 1000s or low 2000s, thinking they'd eventually climb the way that pre-bubble cards did, is now facing a reality where every week there are 15+ new entries into the project world that make a run of 2100 look fantastically successful.
