Through his previous, what, 26 project cards he's done a decent job of distinguishing the two sets. I don't look at his Gooden, Ohtani, George Brett, Cal Ripken, etc cards and think it's a Fire card, even if the style is clearly Beck's in both. This one, if it didn't have the P70 case, I'd think it's a Fire card. If you disagree, show me an example instead of blubbering sarcasm. |

I REALLY like that Acuna card today, one of the best looking cards in a long while. Bummed that I didn't bother checking which cards were releasing today, so had no shot at the AP. Oh well.
I agree that it exudes Topps Fire design elements, but I wouldn't think of that as a negative. Tyson is one of (or only?) artist in Project who had actual card design on his resume/cv, many (all?) other artists do not. I mention that because on more than one occasion, we've wondered why artists did not 'stick to their style' for Project that was more like their previous/actual work, Brittany Palmer comes to mind, but there are others. Tyson Beck does it, and we 'criticize' the similarity.. Full disclaimer: yes, of course I'm biased because I heart Acuna and love Bat Down and back of jersey images (even if its not THE bat down image).

I bought a Schmidt AP. Favorite player growing up at a reduced cost. My only wish is that he would have captured the Liberty Bell in there since they had one in Veterans Stadium that lit up and when he hit a HR.

I've been pretty down on McCormick but I'll admit I kind of like that Jeter. The Acuna is great looking. It doesn't subvert my expectations for a baseball card but it doesn't have to.

King Saladeen's Harper and Schmidt pair together nicely if someone wants to do a Philly mini-set.

When did prices change on AP's? I'm out of the loop.

Good selection of cards today, despite being all repeat players.
I don't love the Bo but I do like the 1989 design. The Jeter looks like "generic infielder", but a nice design nonetheless. I am actually enjoying the Matt McCormick set. The Acuna is funny to me because it reminds me of chants of "it's over" from posters here. Doesn't hurt that it's a good looking card, too, which is a plus because for me, Tyson Beck has been inconsistent. The Schmidt is ok. Doesn't set the world on fire for me, but not immediately rejecting it like several King Saladeen cards. Re: changing up pricing...all good for AP tweaks. I'd rather save a little money for APs of artists and players that I may like that aren't that popular. On the flipside, a higher price for more popular artists and players may plant enough doubt that it will be easier to buy some of those that I want before they sell out. I find it's doubtful that they lower base pricing at all for the print-on-demand product. I am concerned if they do, it will devalue ALL the cards in the set [and Project 2020] should I ever want to sell. |
