Products like Dynasty almost make me wish for gambling regulation. No casino game with as bad of odds as Dynasty would ever get approved. There are some great cards in it, but 95% of the boxes at least will be losers and I'd bet closer to 99%. That's true of a lot of super premium products but they also have higher value product hits. Dynasty is like buying a $1000 scratch-off ticket that has a very few $2000 winners with a very very few over that.

The sad part of Dynasty is that a 1/1 WBC ball auto probably wouldn't pay for the box.

I don't want any kind of regulations in the hobby, but other than that, I agree completely. I never open up the super premium stuff because its pretty much a guaranteed loss. And not a small loss either, its usually a massive loss. I'll keep profiting on my good value products, and just buying the good singles from the big stuff for my PC. They are nice though.

It's almost like sports cards aren't the same thing as a casino game. They are a collectible. Because there are people that buy the boxes in hopes of hitting a card they can sell for a large amount of money doesn't change this one bit.

Hit this beauty last night. Got 10 boxes, didn't plan on opening more than four, decided to open the fifth and this was in that one. It's available and will be on eBay later. Will post it in the B/S/T forum but shoot me a PM if interested

You think Dynasty is bad? Go look at BO right now and every Panini football preorder hobby price. Literally 1-3% of coming out ahead on the $1000+ boxes and no $20,000+ chase card in any of them. I would rather open 2 boxes of World Baseball Classic then those boxes BO is charging $1000+ for. World Baseball Classic you could have bought for weeks even on the secondary market for under $110 a box. If BO and their ilk had more control over Topps pricing for online exclusives World Baseball Classic preorder would have been $400 a box.

Buffalo has had cases in and out of stock a few times today, around $2200.

Fair enough, but the reverse is true. Just because they are collectibles it doesn't change the fact that wax prices are largely based on the gambling aspect. In no world would anyone pay $1000 for an Aaron Nola patch auto, even ones as nice as Dynasty. Stick it in a mystery box that might have an Ohtani instead and people will pay for it.

And that's fine to argue that side of things. But when you are talking about gambling and regulation, it's a whole new ball game. Regulation isn't going to stop BO, or any other retailer from charging whatever they want. Just like regulation isn't going to stop you from asking whatever you want for a card you own.

With a fluid, ever-changing market, how do you set odds and reguations? A scratch off ticket can't change in value. A $100 winner is going to be a $100 winner every day of the year. That number is never going to change. An Aaron Nola card is only as valuable as what somebody is willing to pay on that day. That card doesn't come out as it's worth X amount and you can buy or sell that card for X amount today or 10 years from now. Card companies meet all the requirements by releasing odds. They don't have to promise or guarantee any type of return on investment. Just like any mystery pack. The only issue is when they mess up and a card doesn't get packed out in any form.

That’s the reason I used the qualifier “almost”. I don’t want regulation. I almost want it in a bit of hyperbole highlighting how bad Dynasty is.

I get it. And it wasn't meant to just be directed towards your comment. But there's a lot of people here that seem to think that opening a pack/box/case of cards is the exact same as buying a lottery ticket. Especially when it comes to breakers.

But then again, I think there's a good chunk of people that think that breakers keep all the big cards that get hit.

Had 4 loose boxes from Topps show up, they were fun -- here were the biggest hits:

Interesting the Luis Robert is /22 vs. /25, guess they lost some sticker autos at some point.

Anyone get only 1 of your 4 boxes from Topps? My order still shows processing with 3 to go. Never had that happen.

A few of my favorites I have in hand now...

Really hoping to see a Devers patch, but still haven't seen anything numbered lower than 25.

I love Mookie and the base cards are awesome, so I had to pick one up.

I pulled a good base card too:

And pulling the Soto flag allowed me to buy the one card I was looking for in the release.

I couldn't decide, so I snagged 1/5 and 1/10. One will stay in the PC, and one is available.

Great stuff. The 1/10 Trout was a plain white patch? Feels like they should have done better with that? The 1/5 looks amazing.

Thanks!

No patches really on any of the black ice difractors for other players.

Looks like the patch might be from the 2 on the front of the jersey.

Yeah, I guess the jersey were pretty plain -- by that I mean, no pinstripe or other anything other than the patches themselves which are probably reserved for /5 or better.
