That would make for some decent song lyrics right there.

I will be 100% shocked if the rookie debut cards ever gain momentum.

That said, I am REALLY curious how the market will shape up in the future for the TCU cards. Those I have a good stash of since I opened a lot of that and kept the base cards, selling the hits(one of which is unfortunately an Acuna refractor). I just can't see where these end up behind that much from the regular base Update. Buy a hobby box, you're guaranteed an Acuna. Buy 5 chrome update, you might hit one, you might hit zero.

Of course, that also means he could slide backwards. There is always a downside. Everyone is still speculating. Just like any investment (I consider cards an investment)

His ceiling is higher than his floor

If Acuna played basketball, he would be hyped like LeBron IMO as the nice sure fire generational player at 21 years old (or when Lebron was 18 coming out of HS)....but he plays Baseball and there is less of a surefire bet for many reasons

From my perspective, that is worth the gamble and paying up for current prices
No question, and I'm certainly a buyer in him and have been for the last few months during the run up. But weren't people having the same conversations about Kris Bryant during the 2015 season? Maybe he was a tier lower in prospect status but was probably in a bigger local hobby market (although that may not matter once players reach some critical mass of nationwide allure/popularity).

I love Acuna for so many reasons and catch Braves games every night because he's a joy to watch. I just worry that there is some downside if he turns out to be anything less than say, a Mookie Betts type, which is an incredibly high bar to clear.

Ron & Juan are the cards (if you are INVESTING) to buy and put away for 5+ years

both are just boys playing a mans game and should get better with experience

Kind of surprised that 2017 Bowmans Best autos are still only between $90-100 raw

If Acuna becomes what many here think he will the dumb, unneccesary, sideways stepchild RD will get dragged behind at a somewhat proportionate level IMO. I tried looking at Mookie cards as an example as it's a similar situation(vertical base&sideways RD)although Mookie doesnt have quite as many available RCs overall as Acuna. During hot streaks the RD was consistently around 20% of the base. With Acuna having affordable options like TC and Archives that Mookie didn't have his number may not quite be that high but a couple MVP caliber seasons will drive up pricing on all 2018 products and Id bet they won't be a buck each. Wow that was some run -on rambing, I apologize. My point is in 3 years if Acuna update is a $20 raw card I seriously doubt the RD will be still a buck.

That ESPN story will catch even more casual collectors attention imho. I have been browsing ebay for Acuna since late October and in the last month, good stuff is either gone or overpriced.

Well, say in 5 years(same length for Mookie), and Acuna has 2 top 5 MVP finishes(not even winning, just finishes), and his base update sells for $40-$50 raw, I could see the RD card netting $5. The PSA 10 versions of those for Mookie are barely getting $20 though, and I have no idea why someone would want that card instead of just spending a bit more on a raw even RC.

Is there value in the future? Sure, but you're looking at minimal increase. Maybe 20 years down the road if Acuna is a HOFer it becomes a more legitimate card, but hard to say.

I guess I disagree a little. As product fade away and become less available that logo has a draw. So currently(during a slow start) Mookie's psa 10 base are 100 and RDs 20? Sounds like 20% to me. Youre thinking more like 10% for Ron? I respect your opinion and am retardedly fascinated by card market analysis, especially from those I respect.

Well, raw Betts update RD sell for $1-$5(depending on how you look at them). Some sell $5 with free shipping.

I think raw, the Acuna's could be worthless, and in the same boat, unless they are 10's. And then be worth the same, $20ish as a PSA10. This is the whole graded vs Raw. I think raw rookies will sell just fine, but raw RD's will be mediocre.

It's my only SGC, but I like the gold trim on the label for the pristines. Not a fan of the regular labels at all.

The kid is truly a phenom. But let’s pump the brakes on comparing him to Trout. Maybe after multiple MVPs, multiple top 3 MVP finishes, AS Game MVPs etc... then we can revisit that comparison.
I think Acuna differs from other previously hyped prospects like Bryant because of the new analytics like Exit Velo, WAR, Launch Angle etc. players are scouted differently now. What was once a measure for talent and projected ability has changed over the past three years. Looking at the new breed of prospects seem probable that many of the former “can’t miss” guys wouldn’t fall under that category. Acuna is a rare, generational type of talent and I hope he has a very long, HOF career. His potential is unlimited at this point, and he is great for the game and hobby. Time will tell if he is on the same level as Trout. Remember, people were saying Mookie passed Trout as the best player during last year. Well, seems like Mookie has slipped back into the rest of the pack.

Finally fell into the Update hunt and went to Walmart, they only had 4 blasters so I grabbed all 4, no hangers or fat packs sadly.

They also had like 8 Holiday boxes, but I just grabbed one to rip and of course I got not a single Acuna

The Holiday boxes are worth it for the Metallic Acuna potential.
