So far, this is more an indictment on Payton than Wilson.

Broncos DVOA was the worst recorded since tracking began over the first 4 weeks. After week 5, it is the worst DVOA in that span since tracking began. Maybe he should have stayed on Cowherd's couch.

i didnt realize wilson has a 17-4 career record against the 49ers. i suppose id have disdain for someone thats beaten my fav team that much too.

But to go back to the whole point of this thread, Wilson at this point in his career is basically the 15th best QB in the league, maybe on a good day he's 12th? and bad day he's in the 20's.

But he's paid like a top 5 QB.

And we have people guaranteeing him as a HOFer. And top 5 QB of all time lol.

Safe to say, Broncos got royally screwed by this trade and won't be competitive until 2025 at the earliest, maybe even 2026.

I don't have ultimate disdain for Wilson, but I do have a share of disdain for those who hype him up. He is a goober though. Verified.

9/11 for 68 yards, 45 rushing yards and a TD AND A SAFETY in the first half is bad. 68 yards passing? In todays NFL? From "Russ the Great"? Not a good half.

This is my issue with the Russ hype.

- The Seattle D brought them that Championship. Bobby Wagner in the HOF? - I will sign off on that RIGHT NOW as first ballot.
- He threw a goal line pick in SB #2. Breath-taking.
- Then I heard it was how Schneider sucked and he had a bad OLine. He did not. He held the ball too long and took bad sacks.
- Then his play trailed off, the guy that replaced him has looked damn good so far.
- Goes to Denver last year - Denver's D was very good. Considering Russ did nothing with the offense, the D was good. Apologists blamed Hackett - maybe bad head coach choice but was successful with Aaron Rodgers.
- Super Bowl winning coach is hired with a long winning history. Now it's the coaches fault again, somehow.
- No MVP votes EVER, no first team all pros.
- Currently, and poetically, between Kerry Collins and Joe Flacco in passing yards.

So - given all this - why the hype?

First off, I said it was a solid first half, plus it was against the vaunted Jets defense. A team that held the Chiefs to a meager 23 points and picked off Mahomes multiple times.

While I do not think Wilson is legendary, I think to a point you are almost underrating him. You give him zero credit for a Super Bowl win, another near Super Bowl win, and the continued success for the Seahawks for practically a decade with him at the helm.

You are crapping on Wilson, meanwhile Geno Smith this year has 800 something yards, 5 TD's and an interception. But here you are praising him...because why? It's all due to Geno, but Wilson did nothing?

You come off that he's like Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer here.

- who is 'hyping' him besides a handful of maximalists that were overly exuberant on here during the Covid run-up (applicable to a ton of players)

- funny you continually try and prop up the vaunted Legion of Boom defense. You know, the one that largely disbanded by the 2017 season and became a middling defense (by all metrics) that continued to fall off each ensuing year.

- yet you try and emphasize that his play 'trailed off,' yet his play (by all metrics) remained pretty constant both before and after the LOB's dismantling. What exact stats of his are you looking at?

- Yes, he fell off a cliff when he arrived in Denver. Sensible people won't refute that. A sensible person also won't try and imply that he 'trailed off' before then, because the numbers don't coincide.


Funny. Their defense was exceptionally mid his final 5 years in Seattle....their run game was epic....and Wilson was traditional Wilson (extended playmaking with hyper efficiency)...which meant they beat pundit 'basement dweller' predictions year in and year out. Except that last year when he missed the first games of his career due to injury. Something happened, and it never righted itself.


He's going to Canton. He's not overhyped by the realests...he's rated just about where he should be, which is a tier below guys like Brees. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Especially considering he's the greatest 3rd round slinger of the 21st century...by a large margin.
