Good for her. I'm glad these new players are elevating the game and hopefully inspiring young girls to participate.

Although she may have lost some fans with her latest comments. No real loss because those are the ones the sport and society doesn't need.

Anybody that takes offense to what she said is a moron

She will lose fans because she's acknowledging she's benefited by being...white

The WNBA had a great year of growth. Maybe they will continue. Maybe it will fall back into the gutter.

Good for Caitlin.

“A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players," she said. "This league has kind of been built on them."

"The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that," she continued. "The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing.”

She has a lot of racist fans that hate what all black players do. Clark started and ended the WNBA and College

She’s admitting she’s awesome but probably got some “privilege” along the way… multiple words you can use

She’s telling the crazies to STFU and respect her peers even if she is better at basketball

She has to deal with being the white hope when she just wants to play Basketball

It reflects poorly on all players

So Panini pulled a Panini….RC logo is missing from the ROY cards/autos. Pretty irritated at this, but nothing we can do I guess since they cover their ass in the description with the whole “subject to change” bit

Just imagine if the WNBA had any caucasian viewership representation whatsoever.

Imagine it hard.

CC is not really wrong, the WNBA has been built by black women. Doesn't even matter if it was not a popular product before. Doesn't really matter if it's popular going forward. I'm not old enough to have witnessed the early days, but I don't remember the NBA becoming really popular until the 80's and there were plenty of generational talents in the league before Magic, Bird, & Jordan. If CC is the Bird to Reeses' Magic, good for the WNBA.

There is only one paragraph in that piece that is even remotely controversial. I think people are being way too hard on her. Honestly, if it takes a white, generational player to get another part of the population to care about the product, it's kinda proving her point. Same with Tiger and golf. Enjoy it while it's happening. Few even paid attention before. Let's see where it goes.

The old saying is true. Ignore everything said before the “but”.

“I earned everything, but”

Nope. Her white privilege got her to the level she’s at today. Great player, but wouldn’t be even half the star she is if she wasn’t white. I am glad she’s recognized that disparity. I do not follow the WNBA and never have. And the only three current players I could name are Clark, Ionescu, and Reese. Supporting her point quite well.

To build on this, I think the other players that came before her are going to be considered and thought of more because of the spotlight she's bringing to the league.

Just like the pre-Michael Jordan era, right?

How dare you put the stank of Angle Reese on Magics name, she is awful, she has some physical gifts and puts in the effort when on the court, but she will never be good. If you throw up 8 shots and rebound 7 of them before you make it, it should be counted as 1 rebound lol.

If you can only name 3 players in the WNBA and two are white that is on you alone, and disqualifies your opinion on any of this for me.

I rarely watch WNBA. I watched a few Fever games, a couple other regular season games, and some playoff games this year, as my daughters start to gain interest in sports and BKB specifically, but I wouldn't say I am a fan.

BUT I could probably name half the stars in the league, and a few more if you showed me pictures of them (I am a man, I remember pretty women easily) and I personally remember the league being built on Sue Bird, Lisa Leslie, Cooper, Moore, Candice Parker, Etc. Prior to them there was a league but not much of one and the product due to the overall lack of talent made it hard to watch (was some good/great players but there needs to be competition to make something interesting.

Kind of.....

I would have no appreciation for any players prior to MJ if it wasn't for MJ. As he ascended to the top, I learned of everyone before him that played as he passed their career milestones. That in turn made me curious about them and learned about the past greats of the game, eventually learning of some of my all-time favorites like Pistol Pete, Lew Alcinder and George Mikan.

Wrong. I've never watched a WNBA game, so I only know the players from the periphery. It certifies Clark's opinion as correct. That she has ascended to the level of popularity she has because she's white. Because she certainly is not the best player in the WNBA. I know someone else won MVP and she's won many times, but I couldn't tell you the name without looking it up.

I know Sabrina from the WNBA Prizm pump during the pandemic. And I know Reese because of the Clark rivalry. Does Griner still play? I guess I know her as well.

White people are funny

She's clearly been captured by the woke mob and downplaying her talents just to get people to like her. Crazy.

No amount of pandering/virtue-signaling will buy you a seat at a table where you're not wanted
