Is that it? Do football fans really hate/dislike Tom Brady? or do they just really dislike how some Brady fans act?

I'm going to try to be as unbiased as possible. Jeter definitely wasn't underrated by any means. Was he overrated at times? Sure. Looking across his career as a whole, I don't believe he was. Jeter was never the best player in the league nor was he more talented than a fair portion of the league, but he used HIS skills to the maximum. He was as consistent as a twenty year player could be, both health and game wise. Was he Troy Tulowitzki or Ozzie Smith in the field? Of course not, but he was as sure handed as any Shortstop I've ever seen. If the ball was hit to him or in his general direction, it was an out. That's something that can't be said for many guys. You can't argue with the numbers either. The guy could flat out hit. He wasn't one of these 3,000 hit members that stuck around for twenty five years and just got above the mark. He had eight 200+ hit seasons, not to mention a good amount of years where he was pretty darn close. He was, by far, one of the greatest postseason performers in the history of the game. He came up big time after time when he needed to. I think if you discount his postseason legacy, it takes a lot of that glowing aura away from him. He was without a doubt an all-time great player. I don't care what anybody says.

Tell me again how a guy finishes 6th ALL TIME on the MLB hits list but is "overrated"? I hear that all the time as if Jeter was just some average player that was propped up by the New York media. He wasn't some scrub who happened to have a few big October hits. Out of the tens of thousands of people who played MLB, only 5 in history have more hits than him. Think about that for a sec. Was it the New York area code that caused all those balls to drop for hits? Something in the New York air? So much butt hurt from Mets and Red Sox fans...Idiots.

jeter is one of the best ss of all time and started his career when the ss position wasn't supposed to provide power. plus he was a yankee captain with 5 ws rings and played his entire career in ny. Future Hall of famer with 3000 hits. Great player.

I'm really amazed Ichiro RC's don't sell for more considering the numbers he's put up in his career. He started in the U.S. at age 27 and had 10 straight years of 200+ hits, 8 straight seasons with 100+ runs scored, over 500 stolen bases, and surpassed the 3,000 hit mark. There are a lot of players that put up great numbers that don't get the attention they deserve.

Rings and market play a big role in popularity contests (which is what demand for sports cards is) so it's really not hard to understand the disparity in prices. That disparity speaks nothing to a disparity in talent between Ichiro and Jeter. Both are all-time greats.

No one will care about Judge in the future.
None of the players you listed are lifetime Yankees -- they were all just rentals.

If you really believe that there is no Yankees factor, you're crazy. Ripken was an all-time great, but had he been a Yankee, his cards would be 3x what they are now.

Stop making sense it's making it hard for the yankee logo blinded dolts to scream nonsense. If he played for their crap team he would be the most underrated player in their eyes. But he was not and they are very jealous of that.

I came in and basically wanted to say this, but its already been said. You'd see Jeter on tv for getting a hit, selling razors on a commercial, and every so often on the E! Network or whatever for dating like the entire cast of Real Hot Women of California. He was everywhere, especially in NY / Jersey and lots of PA.

Very true just look at Judge and Bellinger!

Had Ichiro stayed with the Mariners he would be just as popular, but moving to the Marlins does nothing for your collector base. Ask Piazza.

Off-topic, but anytime I watch the LLWS (which isn't often, admittedly), I always hope there would be just one quirky kid who would pull some obscure name for his favorite player.

"My name is Timmy Smith, I'm 12 years old, play 2nd base for Idaho Little League, and my favorite baseball player is Gil Meche."
