My favorite is the "add 4% for G&S" line. Paypal fees are 2.9% + $0.30. Where is the extra percent coming from?

Gas, depreciation on vehicle, replacement calories

Also, can this "Karen" thing go away soon? It's reached the point where it makes me instantly judge anyone who uses that term, just like I did when anyone referred to something as "sick!" in the past. I think it says a lot about someone when they overuse and cling to dumb, trendy terms.

So I should stop saying "groovy"

I agree completely, and we're going to put a stop to it.
The police are on the way right now.
I have a lot of pull with the authorities.

If people want to be paid G&S just list a price with the fee's built into it. Simple enough to do that.

I haven't been involved in the groups in awhile but from 2014 to late 2018 Facebook was where I did a lot of my deals, trades, razzes, sales, and purchases. Every group I was in had a vouch system and everyone paid F&F. It was very rare someone wanted to buy or sell as "goods". That was new to me when I came here and it was all done goods. I didn't mind either way as long as whoever I was dealing with had a good rep. There are also scammer groups with extensive lists of people to avoid so that helped.

Either way, I don't view Facebook as a whole lot different from here (at least when I was a big part of it) especially when it comes to how people buy and sell lately. Trying to sell here you need to be at least 30-40% below eBay on your initial price and hope you get an offer or 2 at 50% below.

Everyone everywhere just seems to be looking for the next flip.

Yep seems everyone refuses to pay ebay and wants well below. Why in the world would you want to give well below ebay when you can make more on ebay paying the 13% in fees they take still.

Soo true I don't even look or post in the BST sections anymore because its all full of dudes who want things for cheap... blowout has become lowball central. I don't have a problem paying a 3% fee especially because I can usually get a price below ebay comps already and its saving me buyers tax as well on ebay... Pretty easy solution to this... buy from people who have vouches save yourself the head ache... otherwise pay the 3% for protection and piece of mind.

Yeah I understand wanting a deal but don't offer me 120 on a card that sold 3 times for 200. How about like 185 or something?

I really think the majority of it comes from most people not buying to collect. If someone posts a card I want and it is not well above eBay, I just buy it. But I only buy PC and not to flip. I guess when the market blows up and you see dollar signs you try and find every desperate seller you can.

I had a few sale threads not too long ago and was either ignored completely or got lowball offers. Almost every card I had posted here sold on eBay for asking price or more or what I was willing to accept if someone had made a reasonable offer. So like you, I just don't even go in that section any more.

This is not new though. I’ve been grading and liquidating a nice silver/Bronze Age comic collection (all first appearances of key characters) and of the best offer option is on I get tons of offers at the floor and when I decline I never hear from them again. If I check their profile, they just sell, so they fire off offers looking for suckers then sell high. I don’t sell a ton of cards but I assume the same is true there.

Low-ballers aren't new generally speaking, but the amount here on the forums has definitely gone up since I was last posting here and gotten more extreme.

My experience was always something like...Let's say comps on a card made you come up with what you thought was a reasonable asking price at 175. You might get like a 140 offer and then you would say 160 and they would walk away or maybe you deal.

Now a 175 card I'll get PM's for like 75. It has never been like that in my experience.

New school thinks we’re all idiots. I don’t bother returning those messages.

Which of the people vouching are responsible for sending your money back when the guy that you pay gift takes the money and runs?

Interestingly enough I was only ever scammed 1 time and I believe it was on here. It was only like $15 and I think the guy had some issues he was dealing with but years later he messaged me on Facebook apologizing and gave me my money back.

That being said, despite vouches and things like that it is still up to personal judgement. Most people want to have good relationships to make deals though, and aren't staking their reputation on people they wouldn't trust.

Lastly, the other good thing about Facebook is that you can put a name and life to people. So for me I won't do deals before looking at your page and seeing that I can see your friends and family. One guy tried to scam me once so I messaged his wife and mother and he got super pissed but gave me money back and moved along.

Yup this is on it 100% its nice to be able to see faces and if you have mutual hobby friends with people in the hobby etc... its pretty simple do you homework on a buyer/seller or cover yourself with the 3% fees... the fact that people get so worked up about covering the fee is ridiculous... pay it for your own piece of mind and protection or don't buy from them... id be more worried about those who don't offer a GS option lol. But yes facebook is the best place to do business right now... lots of groups where you can ask for references... you can build a network there and put faces to names in the hobby... At the end of the day all you have is your name in this hobby... once you blow it you're pretty much screwed! Once again use common sense like don't buy stuff from people with a new profile or no photo and you'll be alright haha... if you're not buying and selling on facebook your putting yourself at a disadvantage!

I've never had an issue with the word groovy, so no worries there. It seems like it was most popular a bit before my time though, so I never had to deal with the full wrath of it. Plus, unlike the two words I mentioned, groovy has a positive connotation, which makes it difficult to dislike.

The two examples I mentioned just get under my skin. I played a lot of live poker in my past, and it seemed like a table couldn't go 10 consecutive hands without something "sick" happening. As for the "Karen" one, it seems like we've reached the point where anytime two people disagree about something, at least one of them is a Karen. At some point, we might as well just refer to our species as karens instead of humans.

Haha, that's great news! Let me know if you need me to testify against anyone.
