Yeah, Nat seems like a good guy so I'm sure he made a fair offer. However, it's also funny how OP posted here asking for advice, literally everybody told him that he should send it to consignment for auction and to make sure he doesn't sell it to a shark...he thanks everybody for the advice then immediately turns around and sells it to a shark.

Nat is a good guy and I’m sure the offer was fair. This should be a stickied thread though on what NOT to do should you come into this be of these true grail cards by happenstance. Do not ever sell direct if you have a card like this and are looking to maximize profit.

Let’s say Nat paid $100K for it. Would Nat pay $100K at auction for it? Would Leore? Would a card hedge fund guy? Would our Hakeem super collector? We will never know.

The other good thing about grail auctions is they unearth other cards as people sell monsters to fund bigger purchases. The cycle feeds on itself. Nat obviously doesn’t have to sell to compete, but maybe the Hakeem collector has to let go of some stuff and now more rare Hakeem’s are going up for others. Maybe some guy wants one of the top Gem Masters over his stash of rare Luka?

It would have been fun to watch the ramifications of a card like this go to auction and to see what would have happened.

Does anybody know if the Hill 1/1 Credentials guy took it to auction? I can’t remember.

As a player collector this makes me sad. But it is the way of the world I suppose.

imagine if the Olajuwon guy had begun selling off things to builds up funds for this auction, only to have a deal done behind everyone's back like this.
Sure, Nat may pay 'fair' prices, but this whole thing stinks IMO.

The "Olajuwan Guy" You mean the guy who didn't even have close to enough money to buy the card, wanted a year to try to come up with enough money, and the OP told not to bother because he was looking for a quick sale? "Done behind everyone's back" It's HIS card. It's NATS money. What entitlement do you have to know exactly how and when others buy and sell their cards.

There is more than one Olajuwon collector...

*Edited post as the guy saying it would be run on auction is not the OP, which is what made this look worse.

Dude posts card on forum. Buyer gets in contact with seller and negotiate price. Seller agrees, buyer pays and ships card ... TADA!!! in the hands of the buyer!

100% This. People entitled that they collect a certain guy, give me a break, Nat is a collector too, just because he doesn't hardcore collect a certain guy rather just rare 90s cards makes him less deserving? Behind people's back? Their prerogative...just like how people in the Nat ripping 2012 prizm box want to say how he should spend his money. Could it have gone for more than Nat paid him? Maybe, but he also saves probably 8-10% in seller fees doing a direct deal, and with a buyer who is no nonsense, no return BS kinda thing. Maybe sellers son had emergency surgery and needed funds asap...who knows, more so why does anyone care?

I guess I should really break down my question to prevent the speds from replying.

Does Nat post here? Did someone here tip him off to the card's existence? Not sure I've ever seen him.

Yeah he posts here, just not all that frequently.

I don't blame him for not posting more after seeing some of these reactions.

Makes sense. Well it looks like it went to an actual collector, can't beat that. No doubt OP was compensated fairly.

How can anyone be upset for OP selling to a true collector and someone helping revitalize the hobby..? Mans got perhaps a life changing offer in his DM's from a trusted person inside the hobby. The security and relief of dealing with someone trusted makes the deal that much easier to make. I know player collectors are bummed, but who is to say Nat wouldn't move it eventually? He seems like a reasonable guy.

Good for OP. Didnt have to deal with PSA fees or an auction house.

lol...this is such a fail post. The "Olajuwon guy" already said on the previous page (Dec. 23) that he wished OP best of luck as he was at least a year away from being liquid.

Second, "behind everyone's back like this" is just wow. OP owed some fiduciary duty to the posters in this forum - who would have never bid on this card at PWCC?

Really surprising how you can give lessons to people for respecting ways of buying and selling cards and in the same message making fun of my own way of buying cards, without knowing anything about my own savings (which are above 500K$, just for your knowledge). More respect would be highly appreciated.

Congrats to Nat for this beauty!

First, he may have started selling off in order to be able to work with PWCC financials, I don't know.
Second, if this was said that it was going to be auctioned off, and then wasn't because Nat suddenly somehow ends up with it, it kinda is behind everyone's back.

However my points may be moot as I mistakenly believed the OP was the one who said it would be auctioned via PWCC as a statement of fact, when it appears that may have been from a different poster.

What a shame . With all the investment funds picking up big cards and the recent mantle sale this would have been great to see at auction

So how does this work? Slight potential conflict of interest?
