The poll is based on votes from 142 NBA players. The only way to explain one vote for Paul Pierce is that he voted for himself.

It would be awesome to see a 150 player poll done with players who played from 1980-99 and see what they think too

It has nothing to do with politics, it’s all about analyzing the difference between how Jordan and Bron fans view life - a psychological perspective.

Why dont we wait 5-10 years to ensure an active player doesnt have his teammates, former teammates, and guys he plays against voting. Personally feel like Chamberlain is closer to Jordan than Lebron.

so, what are your criteria? Why Duncan at #9 despite his lifetime .719 winning percentage, 15-time all-defense, 4+ award shares in a more recent era, 3 FMVP, comparisons to Bill Russell . . . who you have at 8th? (whom you have at 8th? who whom ...

There are things that detract from the GOAT case for every player, it's just a matter of who is the more or less GOAT-like player. MJ passes the most tests but there's no perfection here when you consider era and support. (I wonder how much Chicago being a larger market and Cleveland being a smaller one have anything to do with MJ's better support situation 7 seasons in than Bron's in '10.) I'd give the strongest consideration for Bron for GOAT if there weren't visual evidence of suboptimal intangibles in his case, where intangibles are those that I would prefer in a Russell or Tim (whatever the era adjustments and relative athleticism & skill). Bron gets a considerable boost for era considerations, 4 Finals MVPs in this era is about the best we might expect from a player, or perhaps ever again.

I'd have him as my all-time starting small forward ahead of Gelato Larry. The rest of my starting 5 are MJ and then Russell Tim Bron in some order then Magic I guess. (Magic's achievements - through age 31 - might put him even higher, not sure.)

I'd take 3 Finals MVPs as a good basis for "automatic" top-10 status, and it puts you maybe in the top-5 discussion automatically. Even Shaq I guess, although I've no idea who'd he displace, maybe he'd tie someone for 5th? To be in the starting 5 he'd have to displace Russell and I don't see that happening

Friday Funday...

I wanted to eliminate personal biases such as nostalgia, eye test, investment, etc. So, I asked chatGPT-

Who is the goat of basketball?

ChatGPT
The acronym "GOAT" stands for "Greatest of All Time." In basketball, the debate over the GOAT often centers around two players: Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Michael Jordan is widely regarded as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, basketball players of all time. His six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, five MVP awards, numerous scoring titles, defensive prowess, and cultural impact have solidified his legacy.

LeBron James, on the other hand, is also in the conversation for the GOAT title. His combination of size, athleticism, basketball IQ, versatility, and longevity has earned him four NBA championships, four MVP awards, and numerous other accolades.

Ultimately, whether Jordan or James is considered the GOAT is subjective and depends on individual preferences, criteria, and biases. Both players have left an indelible mark on the game of basketball and are rightfully celebrated for their contributions.

I asked Alexa who it thought was the best and it said it liked Jimmy G buckets. Jimmy Butler. I was stunned.
