For my part, yeah, all of those things happened and are terrible.
There's over 10,000 posts here going back and forth and the answers to his questions have been reiterated over and over. We're over 3 and 1/2 years of going back and forth with each other outside of this forum. I can't speak for everyone but in those 3 and 1/2 years I've figured out at this point no one's changing anyone else's mind and it's futile to attempt to do so.
Seriously, the last couple hundred pages is nothing but bickering, mocking and talking about how bad each side is.
If people haven't realized this by now then I don't know what else can be repeated to make them realize that.

Not to mention debating with you is like raising an angry teen. Your sarcasm and snarkiness is a tad bit overbearing for my taste.
But by all means, keep being you.

Since that wasn't your first apology for doing the same thing here, it was just as meaningless as your earlier ones.

Rational people with rational differences of opinion can debate and discuss those difference (sometimes heatedly) and still not insult or degrade each other. Hell, I think most of us could go have a beer afterwards.

I respect people who know what it is they believe, why, and can make articulate points and defend their position. I like having conversations with those people and even if we will never see eye to eye or change one another's views, just the exercise of the debate is worthwhile.

It's when you get those glib, one sentence "LOLZ TDS CUCK DIMS" type responses pr the insane "Obama murdered Scalia" nonsense that you know those people aren't capable of defending their beliefs or having a rational conversation. Then, sometimes you throw a few of their own type "rhetoric" at them because that can get frustrating. It happens on both sides and I'm sure I've been guilty of it in the past.

Debating is it's own reward and keeps your mind sharp (and tests your beliefs) so long as you have an opponent you can match wits with (of which there are several that post here).

Keep in mind this thread is only about 2 and 1/2 months old. Outside of this forum a lot of these same exact conversations have been going on in social media for over 3 and a 1/2 years.
It's been nothing but Trump is blah blah blah.
Democrats are blah blah blah.
Republicans are blah blah blah.
Throw in a few memes and gifs.
Socialist, Nazi, rinse repeat over and over.
Start reading from post number 1 and keep track how many times the same thing has been said over and over again.
Nobody has changed anyone's mind.
Nobody.

So there is no hope for truth or logic then? People have convinced me that my perspectives have been misguided or misinformed in the past, and I have begrudgingly admitted to it before. It is not enjoyable to admit being wrong or shortsighted or ill-informed, but it is a necessary aspect of healthy existence. Are we doomed to just accept that America will simply remain us vs. them, and all that will be accomplished in the years to come is finger-pointing and societal and political sabotage? We all live here, why not make it a place we are always proud to call home?

I have (some) hope that we can start striving to be more rational, more pragmatic, and maybe even better people in time.

This, as opposed to the opportunity to proselytize, is the single most valuable service this thread offers its participants.
Well-said.

I would say that the less we know about people's politics in our everyday, non-internet lives, the better. Us vs. them probably isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Because what we view as simple political ideology is a very large gap between how we view ourselves, and everything and everyone around it.

That's probably not true. It's important to let your beliefs be challenged to see if they hold up to scrutiny. I'd have no problem changing my position on something if information were brought to light showing a superior alternative. It's important to keep an open mind. If I'm professing the earth is flat and someone shows me it's round, I'm not going to hate them for it, I'd be thankful. Changing your mind when presented with facts isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of a logical thought process, it's a good thing.

My responses are basically aimed at your post #10118 and jdands reply. Every question you asked, have been discussed ad nauseum in the previous 10,000 posts. That was the only point I was making.
Carry on, or start reading from post one to find your answers. Makes no difference to me.

Its the politics thread and I feel pretty safe stating anyone that was voting for Trump since post number 1 is still casting their vote for Trump10,000 posts later. Likewise, those who weren't voting for Trump are probably still not voting for Trump.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I tend to believe in this thread most minds were made up a long time ago.

Please don't take my comments personally. It was jdands' reply that influenced my comments. I could type out long responses to your questions but I feel like I and many others already have and to continue to repeat our answers once again is repetitive and futile.
Personally, I love to talk politics, but I despise typing.
