I'm jealous. I just bought a PSA 10 of his 2017 Topps Now rookie but I have no idea how to look up the print run. Unfortunately, I'm regretting not splurging on a BGS 10.

Read some fun new Ohtani stats just now.

The other day he recorded the 3rd fastest home-to-first-base time of the season so far.

A little bit earlier, he was the MLB leader for hardest hit ball (exit velocity) - and fastest pitch thrown - simultaneously.

Has anyone ever seen this autographed card for Ohtani? I've been trying to complete the full set but I've never seen an Ohtani for sale. He's listed on the checklist but I'm assuming the card was never made? There are zero on the PSA/BGS pop reports

I could have bought a BGS 10 for less than $80 but I wanted to wait until after his next start. At least I got a PSA 10 for less than $60.

I won't cross the street for $20 and yet I let that stand in the way of getting a perfect card.

Considering nobody can get one graded for the next 3 months now is the time. I'm happy I managed to get one for my PC before they get expensive again.

I purchased a 2017 Topps Now Off Season Black Label
for 1,200 a few years ago and have been underwater ever
since, so hopefully the tide is turning. I did see one listed
for around 3K from Japan but that seems highly inflated.
Irrespective, I was fortunate to pick up a Bowman Chrome
RC Auto a couple of weeks ago and have seen prices take off.
I, like a lot of people in this thread have great expectations
for Shohei this year and obviously see prices skyrocketing.

For those that did not collect during Ohtani mania in 2018....what were prices like then versus what they are today? And for those that bought in 2018 are you now buying, holding or selling? For disclosure I only own some low end base cards that I bought last summer training (when I started collecting) and picked up some low end base cards during spring training and the past few weeks.

Prices on wax was dirt cheap compared to now. Prices on Ohtani singles were WAAAYYY higher early in the year. But the only things out were Bowman and Heritage real one autos. I think there was a bounty of 100K for the Chrome super auto.... maybe thats considered low now.

Does anyone know when Shohei is arbitration eligible? If they use the traditional method, he's going to be a $50 million player assuming he stays healthy.

He was arbitration eligible this year and the Angels signed him to a 2 year 8.5 million dollar deal. He is eligible once again in 2023 and then is scheduled to be a FA in 2024. I don’t think he ever makes it to FA.

His singles were very hot out of the gate in 2018, then started dipping in 2019, hitting a low in 2020, and started heating back up this Spring. I started buying his stuff in 2018, haven't really ever stopped. Started buying a lot more since the 2020 dip. Slowed down once 2021 season started, or I should say I changed my focus to buying his rarer cards that were lagging behind the rise in base flagship/chrome prices.
