Yeah I was watching some Riley Greene auto relic auctions and the hammer prices were much less than I expected. The auto pool is pretty diluted for all the big rookies and collectors are coming off a decade of non game worn relics. That might explain the lack of excitement.

Update: Ordered gift cards on 8/10, and received on 8/15.

Unfortunately the 10% off Fanatics code doesn't work anymore.

So now I'm trying to decide whether to wait for another discount to pop-up before using my cards to purchase some chrome or not.

If anyone has any knowledge of any current discount codes at Fanatics, pls do share!

I probably wouldn't wait. Fanatics always excludes trading cards from its promo codes. The NHLWELCOME10 was definitely an oversight that they don't make that often anymore.

This doesn't apply to the one I pulled of Yellich - I looked up the game and it was a Spring Training game that he rode the bench for.

That’s unfortunate the source for a lot of this stuff now. I don’t get the appeal of “game-used” relics when actual game-used items are pretty affordable.

I think it is a nice added touch. I pulled an India from one of my boxes. Looked up the patch and it was from a jersey used on opening day and later in a game he homered. I think that's pretty sweet compared to all the other napkin relics in products that likely weren't anywhere near the field.

I guess it depends on your definition of affordable. I got out of collecting cards in the early 2010s to get into game used collecting but that was really the only way I could afford game used stuff if you wanted stars. I haven't followed the game used market much since I left so I don't know if prices boomed like they did for cards.

I don't know about that when it comes to stars. Gamers of stars are still expensive

Small sample size but just incase anyone is curious. I spent about $1300ish on retail and between what I'm selling and holding probably a net $900-$1000ish return. Probably as good as you could ask out of retail. Also did way better with Blasters then Megas.

Ohtani is pricey for a game used jersey. Trout is around $15k. Julio is $10-12k. Nobody else consistently clears $10k. Maybe Kershaw would. Haven’t seen him lately. Kyle Tucker WS G1 jersey did $7500. Same price as his Sapphire Super auto and BCA red did this year.

Balls, bats, and shoes can all be purchased for much cheaper.

Yeah just depends on what kind of mem cards you're interested in. But for example..one of the cards I have in my collection is a Auto Jersey Patch of Yordan where the jersey is tied to a World Series game. Theres no way I could drop thousands on the full jersey but for a $100 or so..its a cool collectible.

I was also asking about how the game used market is today and if it was affected by the boom because back when I was buying gamers..my mentality was exactly like what you said "why own a piece when for a little bit more you can own the whole thing". I have meigray gamers of Dirk, Duncan, KG, Westbrook, Kidd and im sure logoman would go for more than I paid for the jerseys.

I am putting a nice rainbow of a semi star on verge of Superstar staus guy and the most I have paid was in the $200 range for the /5 red. Most have been in the $20-$40 range.

Only one I need not counting the Super which I don't count is the Gold /50

Haha, my time frame was basically the same as yours (when I ordered and received the gift cards).

I went ahead and just purchased 8 mega boxes. With the aid of the gift cards, I'm into each box for ~$51 shipped. Though it would've been nice to apply a 10% discount and add some other wax/merchandise, I won't complain about the buy-in price.
