This is actually the 3rd year in a row Luka is the preseaon favorite. It doesn't mean anything though until he actually wins it. It's still impressive though to be regarded that highly as he enters his 23 year old season.

The Euros are definitely catching up to Americans in talent. Not quite as as good yet overall but they're starting to spit out a lot more gems. Even in the Olympics a lot of games are more competitive now than they used to be. Those teams used to get pounded by team USA in the 90's and prior. Some of it is the quality that team USA puts together but i think the talent overseas is getting better as well. Just imagine if Yugoslavia didn't break up, Jokic and Doncic would be on the same team right now in Eurobasket and the Olympics.

People are gonna hate to hear this but Euros passed Americans a few years ago in league talent.

I would love to see a USA vs. the World format used for the All-Star Game instead of the ridiculous format they are using now.

Imagine Jokic, Doncic, Giannis, and Embiid all on the same team, perhaps with Andrew Wiggins rounding out the starting five.

You're probably right considering the pool size population to choose from. I'd like to see them play a game like mfw13 said. USA vs All-World.

I'll give team World the slight edge. The best American players are at the end or near the tail of their careers (Lebron, Curry, Durant, CP3) Kawhi hasn't been the same since winning a title in TDOT. AD has regressed.

The younger crop (Trae, Ja, Tatum, Booker) are all quite good but I'm not too sure if they're in the upper echelon yet. I guess if healthy, you can put Zion and if sane, Kyrie are the best in that group.

International list just looks like a very balanced team that can co-exist without any issues due to their advanced understanding of all thing fundamentals.

Jokic
Luka
Giannis
Sabonis
Patty
Rudy G
Shai
Siakam
Jamal Murray

The obvious problem here is doing this with the All Star selection process.

Last year you only had 6 (please correct me if I'm wrong) International born players start in the All Star game. Obviously you can't have 6 on 20 for the game.

If you split the voting into "US" vs "International" for selection, deserving US born players would get snubbed, and undeserving International players chosen, since the league is still about 73% US born (121 international players of a league with ~450 players)

If you put together a game 15x15 euros vs americans it wouldn’t even be close. Euro players would wipe the floor with the Americans.

Basketball is international. It has been for 10+ years and honestly AAU makes players worse. European players come into the league ready to play because they learn the fundamentals of basketball. All the AAU kids wanna do now is throw up 30fters and shimmy

Gallinari torn meniscus... tough offseason for Boston so far. Got the closest to the KD sweepstakes only to fall short and now their main vet depth acquisition is down.

I assume there's a very high likelihood that one of Giannis, Luka, Joker or Embiid get the MVP. They are all more or less of MVP-winning age (Luka being faster to that stage than the others). I don't even know if I can think of another player in the league that could snatch an MVP from all 4 of these players. Guess I'll have to check what the oddsmakers are showing.

The NBA seems somewhat top-heavy with the Euro-sourced talent. I haven't taken much time to think about what the causes for that are.

[edit: Durant at +700, seems kinda optimistic for him, dunnit?]

RJ Barrett's extension....like are we even sure he's any good? Volume chucker right now.

Career 45% 2 point shooter and he's 6'6...

He's not very good but that's just the going rate for players now.

The Knicks are just going to be in purgatory forever. To have $75M/yr tied up in Brunson, Barrett, Randle is just comically bad.

Yay for the play in!

I love it. Three players who are #2s at their absolute best. Bold strategy Cotton.

So I guess that squashes the Mitchell to the Knicks talk?

Two really crazy things from the article about the extension:

1. Barrett's deal ends a remarkable 23-year drought for the Knicks: He's the franchise's first draft pick to agree to a multiyear contract extension after his rookie deal since Charlie Ward in 1999, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

2. Barrett is one of only five players in NBA history to amass 3,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 3-pointers before his 22nd birthday, joining Kobe Bryant, Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant and LeBron James.

I couldn’t give two craps about the Knicks but I’d absolutely pay Barrett this money. He’s only going to get better

He’s legit. I disagree he’s just a “chucker”

How long until this team self implodes? What are the odds for whether Morris cheap shots one of his own teammates (intended target or not) before seasons end?

I'm giving them until mid-season... but who knows, it's such a powder keg with that collection of personalities + egos they've assembled.

I suppose he could always leave... would possibly be a 1st for a first-time HC, but who knows, lol.

Another bucket getter. This Nets team is full of scorers, Simmons will never have to shoot again but might have to cover every defensive position. This could be a great team but that’s a lot of injury prone guys and a lot of potential defensive lapses
