Topps is probably having meetings on how to spruce the set up with parallels, autos, etc....

The Living Set is awesome. The counterfeiting crooks suck and need to be held accountable.

I enjoy the look of these cards and I'm still going to buy until #400 and then make a decision on how to move forward. Not having to remember to buy them this past year was helpful.

I bought them all early on. I stopped when fakes were being made.

I’m going to start buying them again shortly.

I don't remember when I ordered my Renato Nunez but I just got them today. This is the fastest I've ever received them, probably now that Project 2020 is tapering they have caught up and have shifted resources back?

Haven’t followed these in a while. Which ones have fakes? Are the fakes getting slabbed?

But weren't the early ones the most faked by Gregg?

I started at number 7 and bought for months. If someone is able to counterfeit cards without any way to tell the 2 apart, the cards are worthless.

There must be some kind of tells, no?

I thought that guy was selling “reprints”/counterfeits of that ‘53 cover card...was there any proof he was doing that in this actual set or is it just speculation that he did it for this set too? Whether he did or not, he is an a-hole for having done what he did.

He got caught faking the ‘53 wax wrapper cover card. (Not actually part of this set, but a very nice enhancement.) The fibre marks on the back (which are unique per card) were identical on most of the ‘53 wax wrapper cover cards he sold. (He likely sold a few genuine originals too.)
Based on some of his sales of LS cards it’s suspected he may have done the same thing with some early LS cards, but I don’t believe it was proven.

Do you know anyone that knew ahead of time Gregg would be making fakes?

In a perfect world, scamming criminal counterfeiters would be publicly held accountable and prosecuted with a heavy hand. Maybe Gregg’s time is coming.

Where was "Gregg" selling the counterfeits? Was his user name "Gregg" on ebay? There is a "Gregg" on ebay (member since 1998), and he has sold some random baseball cards in his history, but he doesn't have any negative feedback or negative reviews (which might not mean anything, given that it is ebay and they discourage all/any negativity). Or, was "Gregg" selling elsewhere, maybe in a Blowout forum, etc? It's pretty frustrating to have stuff like this floating around in the minds of buyers and sellers of TLS. It's like an urban legend, and I for one would love to hear more of the story and hear (once and for all) what is anecdotal and what is factual (if it is possible). Thanks for bringing it up with some connection to the culprit!

Coming Tomorrow!
A Change To MLB Living Set™
Introducing Art by Jared Kelley!

Topps introduces distinguished sports artist Jared Kelley who makes his MLB Living Set™ debut in 2021. Jared is an illustrator, focusing on portraiture, whose vivid and lifelike portraits have earned him acclaim among the art and trading card collecting community.

Moving forward, each week will consist of one card drawn by Jared Kelley and one card drawn by current MLB Living Set™ artist, Mayumi Seto.

So who is this Jared?

Big change!
I think there was too much burden on Ms. Seto, doing 2 sketches each week.

And Jared looks promising.

At first, I searched eBay to see if there were any sketch card works by him, and all I got were Panini autos of White Sox prospect by the same name lol

Jared Kelley has made a name for himself painting on 2.5 x 3.5 trading cards. He actually painstakingly paints on that small of a canvass!

I'm super PUMPED about his inclusion with the Living Set. I'm definitely back to buying now!

I am also excited and looking forward to his work.

I am also filled with trepidation at the unavoidable artist vs artist comparisons/debates/enragements that are going to dominate this thread.

Well, he won't be doing Aaron Judge and many others any time soon!

Debate might be good for this thread as long as we stay civilized.
