It’s been said before... but just because something isn’t being done or hasn’t been done before, doesn’t mean it can’t. There haven’t been many, if any, players who can pitch and hit at the level Shohei is capable of. So, they have always been better off focusing on one. The age at which American players are being told to choose being a position player or pitcher is younger than ever. Most high level players aren’t given the option to try both once they are 15-18yrs old. As a result, the chances of finding a legitimate two way player are lower now than they were in the past.

There have been a few bumps in the road with Shohei. But I hope there have been just as many lessons learned. It is to be expected when attempting to do something that’s never been done at this level in modern baseball. But, I think he has a darn good shot at figuring it out!

I think it is incredibly exciting to witness a player like him grow, develop and break boundaries. I wish more people would spend more time enjoying it and less time questioning it.

That is so nice that it is a shame they didn’t make two!

A lot of the comments here make me think of Sandy Koufax, who struggled with control issues for half of his major league career.
https://sports.jrank.org/pages/2610/...l-Problem.html

"He began to sacrifice speed for accuracy. Slowly, Koufax gained control of his unruly fastball. Koufax explained his transformation in John Grabowski's book, Sandy Koufax, saying that he became a good pitcher when he stopped trying to make batters miss the ball and started trying to make them hit it."

The kid only has 14 starts and 62 innings pitched. If he can stay healthy, watch out because he is still learning. So, so promising.

I recently bought this and its probably the most expensive single card I own. I love watching this guy play and was super excited to add it to the collection.

I bought a couple of '18 Chrome value packs and a box, chasing after some Soto. Pulled 2 Ohtani Pinks. Turned out to be pretty solid.

I had no idea how big that dude is.

I thought I broke two unique cherries for me last night:
-bought my 1st Ohtani card
-bought my first non RC in FOREVER
I was doing some searches for my bums and went to check "sellers other items for sale" to save on shipping. I saw a 19 Sapphire Ohtani card for like $10.50. That felt kinda cheap so I slammed the BIN.
Sale was cancelled this morning and after looking into it for a minute I think it was one of those deals where it sold BIN a month ago then was accidentally re-listed by ebay. Its happened to me a few times like that. No biggie and not a huge card but I was oh so close!

Fletcher cost Ohtani a triple by not going home on that. Ohtani gestured to him like 'why didn't you go!'
