This has probably been mentioned many times before but I'm curious to see if his style of play affects his long-term hobby appeal.
When you consider other generational talents like MJ, Kobe and LeBron, he's just so different. They are fluid, well-rounded scorers who create their own shot off the dribble - especially when the game is on the line. Zion bullies his way to the bucket, jumps out of the gym to catch lobs and can't be stopped.
I'm fascinated to see if the hobby continues to accept him as the heir apparent.

This is great, and makes a lot of sense.

Zion prices are wild to me.

Dipped to $500 range in the short offseason, peaked back up to $900 ish just a couple weeks ago, and now back to being around $700? Wild times.

This is actually the best comparison I’ve seen. Good idea here

Prizm slabs? yeah, those fluctuate wildly for nearly every player, because they're common and get bought / sold by people who flock to the shiny player of the moment. High end is staying high end, most things I track have been trending up

Yep.

It looks like Trae is copping the same. It's almost a week to week thing.

1 big game will see them rise again for a week.

The basketball market is radioactive right now, the amount of buyers who have no clue what they are doing is chaos.

I like the Bo comparison from a strictly athletic/hype phenom angle...but I think that's about where the comparison ends.

Bo did not set the world on fire with his actual statistics. By in large, he was a mid tier talent in both sports in terms of production, but certainly better in football than he was in baseball. But he had style, and lots of it. And when he finally did break a big run or catch contact with the bat...oh lawd.

I'd say a Bo/Shaq hybrid. Bo for the athletic/natural strength comps...and Shaq for the playstyle/draft pedigree/early career record breaking. Obviously not a 1:1 comp, but Zion's makeup is so unique that I don't think there is one that encapsulates him entirely.

Lulu/BBW showdown Monday.

Can't weight.

Just got both of these in. Couldn't resist.

Pop 10 on the blue and Pop 2 on the red.

Which do you guys prefer? Blue is obviously the closer true team color match, but red is better for the alternate jersey Zion is wearing. I'm really torn on which looks better in hand.

Gorgeous! Crusade is the only one I prefer in red, but the blue still is legit. Great pickups!

I prefer Red Crusade. I have a true gem copy in a BGS slab. Your's looks better in the PSA red though!

Yeah he seems to be a better version of Amare Stoudamire or Blake Griffin than LeBron or MJ. Style-wise, I mean. Hopefully he develops a more rounded game than those 2 did, though.

Man, those crusades are saucey!

Personally prefer the Red. Jersey Match aestheticly just looks better. But the blue is still a really sharp looking card.

Have a figured out the print run on the copper parallels from chronic? Have really been wanting to add one of those to the zion stack.

We are in a new era of the hobby. Players do not have to fit the mold of hobby stars in the past to be stars today. You just need something that differentiates yourself. Zion's hobby flame will not burn out so long as he stays healthy.

I'd say Griffin ended up expanding his initial game quite impressively. Finally established a nice 3 ball by year 5 (who says development came overnight?) and was a capable passer.

Unfortunately his net effect on the game never quite translated. Not sure if it's the brand of basketball he played or what it was. But injuries have taken a quick toll on him these past few years. He'll have his occasional nights, but it's nothing like what it used to be.

They had 2 different styles though. Aside from dunking, Blake went primary over opponents and had a somewhat decent midrange early in his career.

Zion is pure explosiveness and bully ball. So based on his current slashline as a pretty one-dimensional threat, I'd say Zion's potential ceiling is higher.

This is all predicated on his defense eventually catching up to his offense, because he needs to take massive strides in that area. Catch rare glimpses of that Duke killer instinct with the devastating blocks and hustle, but need to see that for a sustained 48 minutes.

I'm comforted by the fact he hasn't suffered any sort of injury setback. The dramatic takes were that he was somehow made out of glass or the next Oden. I still think that knee was a one-off due to the blown out shoe incident. He's taken some massive spills in the NBA so far and bounces right back up. Boi stronk.

From an article from CBS Sports:

“Zion Williamson played in his 32nd career NBA game earlier this week, and he crammed a whole lot of point production into those games. With an average of over 22 points per game, Williamson scored 711 total points in his first 32 games. That point total is the fifth-most by any player over the past 40 years, and it's the highest total since Shaquille O'Neal in 1993.”

People somehow seem to still be unaware of just how efficient Zion is at scoring. This is what will set him apart, for whatever holes his game may have. Other aspects of his game will develop (scary), but he can physically do certain things that no one else can.

Now imagine if they start having guards focus more on feeding him the ball as opposed to throwing up prayers from behind the arc. Firmly believe he could easily be averaging around 28 right now.

His biggest offensive step at the present time will be getting his free throw percentage up. Once/if he gets over 70%....he's going to be something else.

Right now it's almost a given he's going to draw close to double digit fouls on opposing frontcourts. When he's able to cash those in efficiently is when they're going to have to completely change the way they guard him (perhaps less aggressively).

And yeah...capable guards. Lonzo and him looked amazing early into his return last year, but that chemistry seems to have fallen by the wayside. Bruh be bricking lobs like Jrue now.

This is truth. The ability to consistently knock them down at a higher clip from the charity stripe would have devastating implications for opposing defenses.

It’s actually not as bad as I remembered, just checking back on some stats and he’s at 62 percent right now. Below average, but certainly not unheard of for a big. That’s tied with Giannis and just below AD. 70-75 percent though would be a game changer.

Heres my (only) Zion pickup for the year. Love the kid, love these cards. Really cant complain getting a psa 9 of a relatively rare parallel true RC for $225.

Crazy week for Zion kicks off tonight vs Luka and the Mavs. Followed by two games on ESPN vs the Clips on Wednesday and the Lakers on Friday. The anticipation is real.
