TBH, I haven't watched a ton of his play.

From his Win/Loss success and his proficient numbers, I'm expecting to see a guy who plays his role in the offense well, makes good decisions, and works to get the ball into the hands of his best playmakers. I'll be additionally impressed if he's able to sprinkle in a few big time throws.
Agreed - excited to watch him tonight! He has weapons all over the field and a defense that hasn't quite been as good yet as advertised but they should improve. They have everything they need if they can stay relatively healthy.

Between Kittle, Deebo and CMC you have three really unique players. Shanahan loves to get guys the ball in space and these three are great. Purdy really seems to understand this offense.

Hoping to see Eli Mitchell more tonight, though. McCaffrey got used WAY too much last game.

Helps me sort out my thoughts.

If one day I decide that he is the real f'n deal, I will end up spending hours and hours tracking his cards and items, and tens of thousands of dollars procuring them.

If not, I can just sit back and enjoy watching his career unfold, whichever was it does.

I want him to work out. He's a Matt Campbell guy, so I'll root for him. Just haven't made my mind up on if I want to be the equivalent of my kid's college fund on him yet.

One thing I will be rooting for (since I have no dog in this fight, other than my long time argument that I'd take Daniel Jones over Kyler Murray, which isn't saying all that much), is a competitive game to get a better idea of what Purdy is made of and what his ability will allow him to do.

It'd be fun to see what he does if the 49ers have the ball in the fourth quarter down a score or so, and he had to be on point to make a comeback. It's a Thursday night game, so sometimes these get weird.

Trevon Diggs on the Cowboys, tore his ACL in practice today per Adam Schefter.

I was hoping for a massive clash when Purdy plays the Cowboys

The best gamble in cards is going to be the guy with the biggest gap from current prices to ceiling. Purdy's ceiling is generational, whether it be Brady or Brady lite. Does it mean he's even got a 10% shot at Brady? Not necessarily. I said this earlier in the thread but way too often in cards, to buy the Brady potential ceiling, you have to pay through the nose to start off because it comes in the form of super hyped, high priced prospects. Most of those guys don't have anywhere near the Brady level ceiling(Burrow? Lawrence? ). You're paying huge sums for not much more expected gain in the best case scenario.

In his first 11 games, he's been one of the best QBs in the league, by QBR, and he's playing on the best team in the league. You couldn't pick a better "Brady ceiling" setup that comes along without paying super prospect prices. Purdy has far fewer rookies than anyone else who came along in recent years, so his cards will appear more expensive relatively to other players. Purdy is the golden combo of low supply and maximum ceiling. Is there anyone else right now in the hobby that fits this bill? No.

Can't imagine a better gamble. Emphasis on gamble.

And what should tell you that his potential is nowhere near being priced in is how many still think he's overpriced, overrated, and way too risky a buy. That shows that even now, he's not really being priced properly. But his stuff has rocketed up from a month ago, and is up considerably even from a week and a half ago

This whole thread is reminiscent of the Mahomes thread...

Go read the first 15 pages of the Mahomes thread and it'll crack you up.

If you were drawing up a player out of thin air to make the ideal Brady moonshot gamble what would their characteristics be?

1. On the best team in the league- ✔️
2. One of the 5 best QBs in the league for the start of his career- ✔️
3. A year or less in the league- ✔️ (because the longer we stretch out of the sample size at a big performance level, the more expensive the initial buy in)
4. Low rookie card supply- ✔️
5. Low expectations from most fans- ✔️(otherwise you also have a more expensive initial buy in)

Purdy to a T

Currently I'd agree with 2 of these assessments, unless you were talking about picking up his stuff in the first half of the season last year, then 3.

You can split hairs on if the Niners are the best team, call it top 3 or 4 and the general idea is the same, but all 5 of those are facts. #2 is by QBR, can call that "top 5 in the league by QBR" and #5 all you have to do is read most things written about him here or elsewhere. Almost no one believes he's as good as he's playing

The beauty of the checklist is that none of it is subjective

You have 5,000 posts

What did you post about before you got on your knees for Brock?

I’ll go look. I bet it’s wild stuff

That Ohtani was a great buy at the bottom of the market in 2019 and that he would win multiple MVPs. It was a riot!

Being ranked a certain place in QBR, especially over a relatively short period of time, does not necessarily mean that I'd put that player at the same ranking of best quarterbacks.

Just like any other metric, it's one data point among many. Same with QB rating, same with PFF grades, same with yards, same with touchdowns, etc. Anybody that tries to make a argument that any 1 statistic is the end all be all barometer of ability and success really doesn't understand football.

Again, I don't have enough info on Purdy to tell you where I rank him. Maybe he is top 5, maybe he's 15, I really don't know. But I do know that I'm not going to make my mind up based on one arbitrary metric from a small sample size.

It's just a schtick. Best to ignore. Same routine. Bugs everyone, then says they are angry or insecure when they reply (oh, the irony).

To be fair, it was an unlikely story that he would continue to play well.

Being a Niner guy it was easy to hold knowing I might lose $$$. I'd still want the cards.

If cheering on Purdy and his cards in the Brock Purdy thread "bugs you", you might have to look in the mirror on that one instead of at me . And no no, most aren't angry, you seemed especially so. But it's all good bro. All that matters is the smashing that's about to happen tonight
