LOLOLOLOLOL did anyone really expect these cletii to develop AI? It was pretty obvious from the start. But hey, at least they have cereal labels!

Any programmer worth their pay can create a script to inject the final grades into a SQL (or any database) as the last step of the process. I can understand taking time to build a GUI/search from the database. Getting raw data in their should be the easy part and happening since card 1. I agree they are learning on the fly. They are building the company and learning the industry at the same time.

I think you are right. The AI being used has been around for a decade. It’s essentially the same software that turns a photo into a scanned document with text and image identification. I’m pretty sure the AI exists but the question is did they make sure not to violate someone else’s patent.

AI is not witchcraft and not that hard to code assuming you paid for the IP rights. If they say the code was written from scratch, then it’s time to call BS.

Well...touting the benefits of a "game changing" product but giving no details as to how the product works usually does that

Email from HGA today for a second 5 card order logged for 30 business day turnaround.
I have my next order for Friday and wanting to test the "Custom Label" for a 2001 e-topps Pujols
and 2020 Atomic Dominguez, I think they would both look terrific and both should grade 9.5++. with
my non AI eyes. LOL

I thought i would post the HGA's CEO announcement regarding 2nd Grading location from a FB post:

***HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT***
We have officially secured our 2nd HGA location. I have been blessed and fortunate enough to bring our 2nd location back to my hometown of Buckhannon, West Virginia.
Our new location we are hoping to have open and operational in 8 weeks. It will be our gaming card location for all Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc. We are excited to be able to focus on each sector of this industry with specialized locations for each. We have done some promos for customers just to get a few out there but we will go full force in 2 months. As we get closer we will keep you updated with opening dates and submission times and limits. Pokémon submissions will be on Mondays and will be shipped to the WV location.
I want to personally thank each and everyone of you that has supported us!!!! Without you none of this would be possible. We will continue to get better and better and work hard to continue to be the best company out there. When we open that location we will be ready to accept 3000 cards minimum from day 1 and possibly up to 5000. We are now on pace to be around 35,000 cards a week by the end of the year and we are going to continue to grow at record speeds and continue to implement better processes as we grow.
Feel free to continue to offer advice and we will continue to build a system that is more beneficial for our customers. We are so close to having our tracking system done and in place as well so you will be able to track your orders through the process.
I hope everyone has an amazing night and we look forward to continuing this journey with you to the top!!!!!
Sincerely,
Tyler Hitt

Wow. SGC's current capacity is about 30000 cards a week.

Wow, Buchannon, WV, that really is the middle of nowhere. I should know I take customers to a mill my company has there 1-2 times a year. Not that Seymour, TN is a hotbed either and they’ve made it work so far.

Thought some may be interested in some images showing what makes up a HGA slab.

- Some Epson photo paper

- A font and back half that make up the flip. The back part has double sided tape more securely bonded to it in order to hold the two sides of the flip together.

- The slab design does not appear to have features that enable ultrasonic welding. What it does look like is some kind of acrylic adhesive (or another liquid adhesive or solvent) may be applied in the perimeter gap between the front and back half of the slab. If that’s the case, I would not be at all excited about exposing a card of any value to either substance.

Finally, not slab related, but I did a little digging into granted patents for computerized card grading. I came across this one. It does not appear to belong to HGA. Curious how closely what HGA says they do is to what’s in the claims of this patent.

And even more recently...

(Same inventors. Appears to be assigned to a Texas law firm that doesn’t exist any more.)

Think it’s this company instead.

TAG P, LLC

The agent for service of process has the same name as one of the listed inventors.

I saw a Yordan 2020 Topps #276 HGA 9.5 end for a decent price at auction the other night. I decided to take a look at the pictures and....wow. That lower left corner on the back was so bad I wouldn't even expect to get a PSA 9 out of it even if everything else was perfect. That was my one and only venture to look at an HGA slab.

Not resubbing ... back bottom corners are dinged, top to bottom centering is bad, and there is an jagged vertical indent on the bottom back edge of the card.

Thanks for sharing. So an Epson photo printer, double sided tape, plastic slabs, and super glue.

Their address is linked to a strip mall in Tennessee and I understand they have opened another location in West Virginia.

I don't get the appeal, either in the short or long term.

They can't even get centering right. There's a "Gem" Jo Adell coming down tonight with 9.5 centering. I measure R/L at 60/40. I wouldn't even consider sending it to PSA just on centering alone, let alone the 9 corners.

These slabs are going to be pure garbage before too long.

I’m 110% sure they are using a commercial grade photo printer you’d see at a Walgreens photo center. I work at an insurance company and the is one down the hall from my office that we use for printing investigation photos. It uses a bunch of different color toner cars. We use Canon an Ricoh paper but to each their own.

Those printers produce amazing quality photos but take tons of maintenance. It always seams like we have people there working on it.

HGA uses acrylic glue to seal the slabs. They’ve talked about that process in the past.
