So first time out and I found an awesome sandlot shirt! Had porter calling his HR and on the back someone out the words “You’re killing me smalls”. A dollar.

Look closer...Giant hole in the middle.

First time looking at close thought I found something and then sadness

The Sandlot shirt isn't the right subject matter (I don't think) but if you run into old concert shirts, pokemon shirts sell well for some reason, stuff woman are into. But the shirts got issues (holes, rips, whatever) buy them anyway. Distress them into custom, what word to use that won't get me banned... slutty attire and they'll sell really well. All you need to do this is scissors (fabric ones, don't use normal ones they screw up the fabric) and a big box of various sized safety pins. I made my friend a vintage pikachu one as a joke and then her friends wanted some. Kinda a niche thing but turns 1 dollar garbage into 30 dollar customs.

Saw a lot of TV show dvd's at goodwill recently. Complete seasons of very popular shows like Friends, Seinfeld, Monk, etc. Looked em up and they really don't sell for much. I was somewhat surprised as I thought the big shows would still sell well. Everything's on streaming now so that's why I was only somewhat surprised... lol

It's not just streaming, all the shows ended up with big "complete series" boxed sets that are much nicer and way cheaper than the originals. I remember when Star Trek hit dvd it was 129.99 per season. You can now own the entire series of any of the 5 series for like 85 bucks brand new. Imagine if you bought them at 130 per season!

Unless it’s actual vintage Star Wars (even from the anakin prequels, stay far away from all that clothing/toys/media

Depends, if it had a cool design or was early 90's or earlier I would pick it up. If it's the newer stuff (like MCU) I'd be very picky. But a slutty rocket raccoon shirt would probably sell. Or groot. Just gotta be picky.

Finally found something I’ve been looking out for for a while. I was in goodwill and hit the women’s coats area before I left because they put men’s stuff there too. I walk up and see a red sleeve and the Starter logo on it, and pulled out an awesome Cardinals vintage Starter bomber jacket. There also ended up being an Indiana University Starter jacket, an old Chevy racing nascar jacket, and a 1980s Levi’s denim trucker jacket. Spent $6 each on them. Also ended up finding what I think is a leather Star Trek jacket that seems brand new and unworn. I knew I was way ahead with the other stuff I found so I took a chance on that one too.

I fully expect that goodwill to be bone dry the next five times I go in, but today was all worth it.

Picked up a nice vintage USAF flyers mens summer jacket for $3 at the thrift yesterday. Should get around $85 for it on ebay.

What Indy Goodwill? I use to live there and they have some good pricing. Way better than South Bend where I am now. Congrats on the finds!

This was at one on the south side but I work in Carmel and live on the east side and I have luck at pretty much all of the goodwill and Salvation Army locations. The Carmel locations seem to pull the better items out and hold them for online a little more while a lot of the others just shovel it out as quick as they can tag it, it seems.

I’ve seen some YouTube thrift videos, and I have to say I’m lucky with our goodwill prices here.

100%. Goodwill's in South Bend, if it's Nike/Under Armour/Adidas or any other big name brand, it's automatically $8.99 which kills my profit. Makes me miss Indy tremendously as they were pretty much $4.49 across the board on shirts/$6.99 on jeans and $5.99 on sweatshirts and jackets. Greenwood has a good selection of Goodwills which I hit up 7 a day on the weekends and Indy over on Washington/Sunnyside Rd/Keystone I've had good luck in as well.

Keep it up man, there's a lot of good items they pass up on just not knowing the brands and put it out on the sales floor. I found my first BAPE hoodie this past weekend I luckily found misspriced and made decent profit on. Whatever you do, don't visit shopgoodwill.com bc it will only piss you off to see what they pull and never make the sales floor....those greedy bastards, lol.

Oh and another thing, get in good with the managers. A lot actually don't care that you're there to thrift which I kind of shy'ed away from in the beginning, but some will actually help you out and let you know what's going on. Not sure if it's true or not, but when I make my way down to Indy, I stop in Kokomo's Goodwill stores and the manager there told me they are going thru a re-model and a pricing restructure where if it's brand name they are going to start pricing it higher, so definitely keep me posted if you are seeing the same thing. I think it will be a slow roll out this coming year, which will suck tremendously bc that's what they have already done up here in South Bend.

Was at a mom and pop shop, spotted a vintage Dansco album. It had the cool Dansco logo stamp on the front but it was priced $13.50.

As I was setting it down, two things happened simultaneously. 1- I realized that the album felt heavier than it should and 2- some young worker walked by and muttered "just priced that out. $10 for the book and it's got $3.50 in dimes inside"

I brought it back up and fully assumed it to be full of Rosies Post-64, but it turns out- most were Mercs. And not only were most of them mercs, the person who had this Dansco seemed to only be collecting toned copies.

I was shocked, this was the best find in a while. Some of these are "monster toned brah" as the kids say.

The pricing structure is still the exact same here. I just had this conversation when I got home yesterday with my wife, that I'm afraid they're going to start raising their prices like a lot of other spots around the country. If they do, it will definitely hurt me. I spend a few hundred a month there, nothing major, but enough that it will kill most things I'd normally buy and flip.

Did you ever visit a store called Value World when you lived around here? They shut down about a year ago, but good god what a spot. Dirty as hell, but 69 cent tees and most sweatshirts were under $1.50. Every $50 you spent, you got a card for 50% off your next purchase. And they'd count your half off purchases toward a new card. It was amazing while it lasted.

That's awesome on the Bape find, I just recently added them to my "buy anything" brand list. I picked up a Supreme hoodie a few weeks ago for $8 but that's my only find of those type of brands.

I stay away from goodwill's website, I went there a long time ago and noped out quick.

Nice find on the dimes, did not know about "toined" coins, but I was thinking right away how you have atleast $30 dollars worth of silver their as well. I don't collect coins, so what would be the average value on those toned mercs as a collector?

Congrats once again on the find!

At melt value, I think I remember it said $43 or something so not bad at all. None of them are in any ~real gradeable conditions. However, they all have clear dates and mint marks.

If I could successfully pop them out (hopefully without damaging the dansco) it seems some of the copies could go for upwards of $10-$15 each with eBay comps.

But part of me wants to take on the task of filling it up. I’m not sure what I want to do yet.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t melting down currency for the material a crime in the united states?

Yes, it is illegal. However, I know people who buy and sell fat 50, 100 oz 90% bars (and they ~say its foreign silver mix...lol)

But "melt value" is just what you call it when you calculate the weight (or monetary value) of the 90% silver US currency (in this case, pre 1964 dimes) and multiply that by 90% of the spot silver price at the moment.

Toned coins are cool, I don't really own that many. I do have this cool American Silver Eagle from my birth year. I just realized when i took the pick its a bit crooked in its case. When I was searching for a toned 1989 ASE I loved i found this one at a local store and they had it for spot +$10 and i didnt even hesitate.

Never heard of Value World, although I wish I would have! Sounds like it was a pretty sweet place. If you find some time on Wednesday's and you're on the southside, try going to Christy's Auction House. Their auctions are hit and miss and sometimes things go sky high, but there are times where you can snag a pretty good deal. They have a website previewing all of their auction items so you don't even have to go if you don't find anything on their website.
