Victor Cruz met with Panthers yesterday. Wouldn't mind seeing him get signed. Carolina definitely needs WR depth.

Current expectation is that unless they sign one of them next 48 hours, #Chiefs will franchise tag Eric Berry and let Dontari Poe be UFA

So, if Garoppolo being traded and becoming a starter means we all get to hear and say gunslinger more, then I’m all for it. Gunslinger Garoppolo has a nice ring to it. The G in Jimmy G doesn’t stand for Garoppolo anymore, either. It stands for Gunslinger. Jimmy Gunslinger.
I like the sounds of that nickname!

Well, they have Torrey Smith and that's it. I'm not sure how to feel about it.

A tag on Berry is a negotiation tool, nothing more.

Shame about Poe though, he's going to get paid.

Steelers have placed franchise tag on RB Le'Veon Bell, per source.

I don't really blame any of them guys for being angry about being tagged. It's basically a one year contract. They all want long term deals with guaranteed money after one year. What happens if he blows his knee out or his hip or whatever and can never play again? I completely understand why he's upset.

Yeah I'd love him for a price, just worried about how much they could pay him

Agreed. Do we know if that has happened yet where someone suffered a bad injury playing while tagged?

Im not really sure. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head. But if it hasn't happened yet it's just a matter of time before it does. Even if it isn't career ending it could be bad enough to screw up a big payday the following year.

I thought id heard all the Jimmy G scenarios until i read about a new one last night. This one was about the Redskins trading Cousins to the 49ers for the #2 pick. With the #2 pick they would be looking to draft Jonathan Allen. That would still leave them the #17 pick in the first round which they could potentially trade for Garoppolo to replace Cousins. I thought that one was pretty interesting.

I believe Henry Melton (former Bears DT) was franchised in 2013 and tore his ACL that season.

Much rather have the Niners trade down the #2, trade their 2nd and 4th (maaaaybe 3rd) for Jimmy, and draft defense. I then would be OK with them overpaying for a wr such as Jeffrey.

Cousins is more or less just a dream scenario, just can't see Washington letting him go

The Patriots are fine with keeping Jimmy, they don't have to trade him, I would like to see them, but the Patriots(BB) aren't going to trade him for anything less than a 1st.

Oh i agree, it's gonna take someone blowing their doors off to get him. He's just too good to let go for anything less then a 1st rounder. I still think the Browns take Garrett at #1 and trade the #12 for Garoppolo. That's a big win for the Browns if they can pull that trade off getting both of those guys. And have 3 more picks in the top 65.

Mayock: If I'm Cleveland, I'd be 'stoked' to land Garoppolo for No. 12 pick

I think the Pats want people to think it will take someone blowing off the doors to get him. And that's smart. But if you are Bill B. and you have made the decision to ride out the Brady thing you will take a best offer, even if it isn't blowing the doors off. And maybe someone will, and maybe even it will be the 49ers or Browns. But I would back way the f___ up on that if I am a GM. Both Osweiler and Garoppolo had/have only a small sample size to judge them by. You give a way a good 1st round pick and Jimmy G "Osweilers" your franchise the fans in Cleveland and SF will revolt.

I see danger everywhere in trading a first for Garoppolo.

I don't and im not just saying that because im a Pats fan. I'm also a big Jimmy fan and i think he's really really good. From everything i've read it's a general consensus from around the league that he's better then any quarterback in this years draft. He's also much better then Osweiler or Hoyer or Mallett. I could have cared less about any of those guys leaving the Pats. I never was wowed by any of them and didn't think they were that good. Briskett won one game and lost one game in Brady's absence and looked terrible in one them. He had 3 completions in the first half of one of those game. I don't care for Brisket at all. Jimmy has been pretty great the whole time he's been here and some team will be really lucky to get him. I'll still continue to route for him no matter what team he ends up on. If a team is willing to reach for a quarterback in the top 10 of this years crop of draft picks, Jimmy is a steal at #12 imo.

Considering the franchise tag salary is an average of top 5 money for the position that is fully guaranteed for one season, I don't feel bad.

No, i know it's a lot of money i get that. But it's the fact they aren't getting a big portion that's guaranteed beyond the one year if they get injured like they would if they signed a long term contract. So for instance say the franchise tag is 15M. They get 15M for one year but if they signed say a 6 year deal for 80M and 40M was fully guaranteed that's a lot of money left on the table for what iffs. It's the security they're concerned about.

Oh I totally agree with 99% of what you are saying. And I think you're nuts to spend a 1st on ANY QB in this years draft. All I am saying is that we don't know what he will be outside the Pats system. And there have been a few guys before him that backed up Brady that won a few games but were not starting NFL QB material when they moved teams.

I saw people go nuts for Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac once upon a time.

I'm just saying proceed VERY cautiously. He could be Elvis Grbac.
