Interesting. Imagine if they did that with a regular card and the back was on the front of the slab, like if PSA did that with a 1986 Fleer Jordan. Gotta be pretty unique.

You can’t tell as much as least since it’s a clear plexi.

There are some cards like ‘94 Flair Marvel PowerBlasts that an argument could be made for either side to be facing forward.

Ah that feeling when....

I was eyeing a sketch on COMC that I liked, priced around $170-180 if I recall. Even made a pretty good offer on it, but no dice.

Anyway, it vanished, so I figured someone bought it, but nope. Now relisted, but this time graded as a CGC 8...and price now like $50 more.

Sigh.....grading sketches. I guess some other people might find value in that, but I dont. Just means I probably wont be going after it now. Couldnt care less if a sketch is an 8 or 9 or whatever.

This is 100% a peeve of mine. Sketches are, by design, ruining the card. You are literally drawing on the cardboard. I will not pay more or less for any particular grade on a sketch card - all that matters is the quality of the sketch and subject matter.

Yep. And color splotches on back, worn corners…it’s a mini canvas, meant to be worked on. I don’t care about the condition of a sketch unless the card has been so damaged (post-artist) so as to obscure the art. Maybe if someone dropped a cup of coffee on it. Otherwise…I just don’t care about condition of a sketch.

One could even use the old ‘it’s a 1/1, condition and grade don’t matter’ defense you see with superfractors, since after all a sketch is a 1/1. But I don’t think that’s even necessary (actually I don’t completely agree with condition not mattering on a superfractor). It just doesn’t matter whether sketches are 7,8,9, or 10s. All it does it make me pay more for something I don’t value.

There's mixed opinions on grading in general, but grading sketches is a waste of money and time.

Not Marvel, but I was happy to get a 10 on this Jar Jar from Living. He’s a character I absolutely hated when the Phantom Menace came out, but now I kind of think he’s cool in a so bad it’s good way. Also I like Ahmed Best and felt he and Jake Lloyd got harassed a bit too much.

And this Hit-Monkey card is going to be tough to 10, I think. It’s got a background pattern where off-center stands out and also one or both of the bottom corners usually show white. Here’s a 9.5. Hope to get a 10 one day!

Got a few more slabs back today… first off is this comic cut.

This is a funny one to me since it contains the mild profanity “Damn” and also the really long-winded thought balloon. Seems like more modern comics tend to shy away more from the thought going on in the characters heads. I think I will use the line “I GUESS THAT'S WHAT THE PEOPLE ON D'BARI THOUGHT WHEN THEIR SUN EXPLODED” next time I drop something.

And then also sent out some SW stuff… happy with this Yoda gold /50 grade 9.5. These are nice looking cards. Have more coming up in a future batch that likely won’t come back until mid-July.

Here’s another one that is a tough to get a high grade slab. A lot of corner issues found with this subset and the left to right is hard to find centered.

Love the design of this /10 stamp card and happy to get the 9.5

And love the art used for this Star Wars Living Zorii Bliss card which netted a beautiful 10…

Just wanted to try the service out so picked a low print run card from my Epack account. Took a month to get it back.

Why are people grading sketches? I get it if they're PC cards, but it adds no value to them.

Just an FYI that CGC a CSG are going to merge into one uniform slab. This means the blue CGC slab for nonsports stuff that matches the comics slabs will go away soon.

https://www.cgccomics.com/news/artic...-cards-merger/

I’m a little bummed about the change since I love the blue slab but the new slab looks cool too…

You might want to sub your Marvel stuff soon if you are hoping to get in on old slab.

They will over a $5 reholder option until Sept. A 9.5 gem mint will be a 10.0 gem mint in the new slab, as there are no subgrades.

I guess I will resubmit Bill Ripken Deadpool Sportball 9.5 to get the 10. Seems like cheating though…lol. I wonder if COMC will offer the resubmit for $5 option in their drop-down menu?

I really like the look of the old slabs so I’m actually rushing quite a bit in to get in on old slabs.

Looks like word might be getting out that the blue slab is being retired and 9.5s will be able to be resubmitted for 10s in the new slab.

I’m leaning toward maybe keeping my 9.5s in the old blue slab since I think those will be rarer in the long run. Thoughts?

Wow CGC is changing the grading scale this quickly?

Im very surprised they couldnt predict this from the start that 9.5= gem mint is not a good idea in cards. They could have looked at the popularity of PSA over BGS, partly because the draw of the 10.

What's more confusing, is that they will now have 2 different 10 grades, one Gem Mint and one Pristine. So one 10 will be better than another 10.

"CGC Cards will use an industry-standard 10-point grading scale topped by a Gem Mint 10 and, for the best of the best, a Pristine 10. Cards previously graded Gem Mint 9.5 are exactly equivalent to Gem Mint 10 under the updated grading scale, and will soon be reflected in the CGC Cards Certification Verification, Population Report and Registry resources under the Gem Mint 10 grade, without any action needing to be taken by collectors and dealers."

Looks like they are trying to mimic PSA at this point....10=gem mint, no subgrades. I mean may as well with its market dominance.

I agree it's confusing....and a mess, because this doesnt seem to be thought out from the start by CGC. They are discontinuing the 'Perfect' grade entirely, a term I was never a fan of (no trading card is truly perfect), and now there are Perfect 10's out there that have no current equivalent. Without subgrades, the new Pristine 10 is....basically almost an '11' in some sense, but not called that?

I have personally noticed that graded CGC 9.5 gem mint marvel cards barely drew much interest or a sizeable premium on ebay, and that's what really dictates the success of these grading companies- prices on the secondary market. Who knows if the CGC gem mint 10 will change that at all, but one thing is fairly certain....if they hand them out like candy, the price premium stays down. Grading companies need to realize, first and foremost, being strict is paramount, making that Gem Mint that much more valuable. There is a pretty strong correlation between the strictness of a grading company and the premiums its cards go for (remember the old BCCG 10's slabs, handed out like candy, which carry basically no premium?). Between all the Gem Mints, Pristine, Perfects you see out there from CGC, I do wonder where CGC stands on this spectrum to this point.

Few more slabs back… really liked the Jusko art on this one and the fact it is 1/1999 (alpha) made me want to slab it…

And really liked how these GotG vol 2 Hanes promo Chrome Cuts look slabbed…

The alpha on a /1999! That's remarkable. On one of the best base arts in the set no less. That's a very desirable card.
