Why does this make zero sense? Genuinely curious.

I get it’s an insert, but is a prizm card, card has team colors, and low pop at 234 psa 10. Yes I own one so I’m biased. I did expect an increase, but not an increase like this.

I honestly thing the overall low production run in 2017 football(as compared to Luka and zion pops) and the lack of a base Prizm RC is what is causing this

For the record- Just sold my “the rookies” psa 10 for $1025, paid for immediately

The crazy thing is the Red and Blues really haven't moved. Just the base has gone up.

Thanks! That is true, there's no coating on them, which is good for the crazy refracting, but probably bad for card protection. I imagine the surface probably scratches very easily, but fortunately this particular card was well taken care of and has none that I can see. Definitely a card that shouldn't be handled very much, and will stay in my one-touch! Wish I knew the print run, but seems to be very low like you were saying before. I think the Chainmail, which is awesome looking, might be a bit more rare, but I'm not sure. These two cards are still relatively cheap (for now), considering that they are cool looking and have the RC shield on them.

Because it's an insert and "the rookies" subset has historically been considered far less desirable than a true RC. I'm not bashing the card at all. I love it when stuff like this happens. It's just that when you can buy a RC auto for cheaper than this insert, it's alway a head scratcher to me and makes me think it will have some pull back, but any Mahomes skyrocketing is good for the market.

If we look forward and believe that sports cards will be considered as an alternative to art,then there is no reason why the rookies...particuarly the red won't sell for the prices they are.
Anyone who owns one would know they actually look like a miniature piece of pressed shiny metal and are very aesthetically pleasing.
The same goes with phoenix rookie rising coloured cards,the Illumination card and many others.Anyone who thinks the current wave of people buying this stuff are die hard sports card collectors are kidding themselves.The same thing is happening with the 2020 project in mlb and their print runs are enormous...with the roster of artists they procured,i'm not surprised it's a success.
If people listened to PATTYMAHOMEBOY in March then they would have scooped this stuff up for peanuts and be laughing now....imagine in 5/10 years.

Agreed. I used to be laser focused on RC designation and which card came first, etc. But I've adapted. The fact is there is one major reason for these huge price jumps in Mahomes cards

Demand > Supply

There is just not enough supply of Mahomes. So get used to seeing beautiful insert cards and subsets becoming valued just like good ole Rookie Cards. Not only do the inserts stretch the RC supply a bit, they are gorgeous cards and are much cooler to the photo sharing society today's youth live.

The exciting part of all this- Is I believe the price run ups will continue. Get ready for season opening night and Touchdown pass #100 hype. What happens then? Back to back Buperbowls? MVP? If that happens, Prizm could be 20k. Seems crazy. But it's not.

I said since theyve been $400 this card was a great buy! PSA 10 Silver Mahomes Rookies are hitting record highs. And these are so beautiful, the silvers and especially the Red/Blue/Gold/Green. One of my favorite mahomes rookies, finally growing among collectors

Still trying to wrap my head around $1k for Optic The Rookies.
Base is a pop 250. Blue is 22 and Red is 11. I was thinking about listing the Blue and Red but don't even have a clue what a good price is at this point. Might have to go the Sleeper method.

Think about the 11,000 copies of Luka Prizm base RC’s. Let alone the 4,000 silvers. I think that is why you see all of these mid tier brands and insert rookies getting bid up

The Prizm Rookie Introduction Insert is a far more beautiful card than the optic The Rookies in my opinion. Just wait til that takes off. Pretty much the same print run

Agree to disagree on that one. I've always been a fan of The Rookies set.

That being said, I know a certain member here that would love the Rookie Introductions to take off since he has two Golds.

Well, regardless of which one looks better, they are of very similar pop numbers and the rookie intro is PRIZM.
