Payton is full of sh!t and it’s pretty evident when you read that this has been in the works for months. It wouldn’t shock me if Payton was trying to tank the season once Wilson started playing well. Broncos not looking good here.

I don't know if he tanked but it was clear he wasn't in love with the Broncos winning and Wilson getting any credit for whatever reason.

I think the issue is two fold.

- As a staunch Wilson supporter, I think it's very apparent he started drinking some of his own Kool Aid after wifeing up Ciara. Gone Hollywood, as the laymans would say. Not sure how it was behind the scenes, but I smelled a slight air of the premadonna role. So he might be a little less malleable/coachable these days compared to his fledgling days as a 3rd round flier fighting to make a name for himself.

- While his ultra efficiency and exceptional td:int ratio are commendable, his raw numbers are down from even last year. He had 500 more yards passing through 15 games in 2022. Denver's probably seeking prolificacy at the moment, and Wilson's been pretty hit or miss from week to week.

There's still a few teams that will probably take a risk on him. Especially considering how thin the QB market is right now, with dudes like Devito and Alopecia guy sending waves through the league for a 2 week span. Someone's going to want a future HOFer that's smart with the ball, albeit at the expense of air yards.

Solid take.

I would wonder how well - say, the Giants - would even go for Russ? Not because of Russ, but because of that division, that team seems to be troubled offensively, etc. Is that what he wants to have to carry (and maybe fail doing so)?

If he truly is "past his prime" he can only hurt his already partially tattered rep going elsewhere and this is NOT the way I imagine he wants his career to end. But it could get worse.

Depends on if he still believes in himself.

Giants are definitely on that short list, imo. I'd add Carolina as well if the price is right, considering how downright unimaginably horrific Young was. Especially considering the early comps, they may look to Wilson as a mentor.

If history has taught us anything, is that hitting in the draft medium-long term is a prayer throw.

I honestly hope he hangs it up, but I'm unsure if that'll happen.

I don't see Carolina admitting failure on Young yet. There were so many bad QBs starting games this year, Wilson will find a home somewhere. Especially if Broncos cut him and are eating his salary. You can sign Wilson on a cheap two year deal. Play him one year, draft and develop a guy to replace him in year two.

Exactly. He'll find a home if he still wants to play. But I hope he shuts it down. Pretty sure he's set financially, and there's really no more upside for his career at this point short of landing on a contender with a lights out defense and EZ mode offense. Which isn't happening.

For a player that I believe sees himself as among the elite to play the last 10 years, I don't see him going the Flacco route (bouncing around the league as a back up, hoping a "Browns" show up). Too much pride methinks.

And for his legacy, the Broncos run may be a blip on the radar.

He still looked like vintage Russ to me in the 4th Quarter of the Patriots game. 26 TDs/8 Ints. this year but obviously not worth what he’s getting paid. I think the real problem is the lack of talent at the skill positions. Their RBs are mediocre and their two “big time” WRs have a single 1,000 yard campaign in 10 combined seasons.

That's always been one of the biggest gripes of a Wilson fan, leading back to his earliest days in Seattle.

He's a second half qb. And it's oftentimes maddening watching him trot through the first 2 quarters with little to no urgency. It's like when his back's against the wall the switch goes off...and he starts forcing it downfield making the most ridiculous throws. But sometimes by then it's too late.

Whatever team takes a risk on him next just has to accept that's what they're getting. And be ok with it.

It's getting hard to find veteran Future Hall of Fame QBs after Aaron Rodgers from the 2005 draft class. Matthew Stafford could be the guy. I dont believe Matt Ryan is. So from 2010-2016, who exactly has the resume? Not Dak, Russell's chances seem to be sliding.

He should retire. He’s got nothing to play for except mildly padding his career stats. Wherever he’d go most likely won’t be contending for a playoff spot, and I don’t see him as the mentor type.

If he retires after this season does he make the HOF? I’m not sure of that.

He needs two wins to tie Montana and Manning in way less years. You guys kill me with your silliness like he can’t play anymore. Please turn of the tv and internet news fellas. Ya all buying into the NFL soap opera weekly.

I genuinely thought he’d have a 2nd career with the Broncos. My confidence in what he is is not high. He can still play, but finding a team that sets him up for success is the biggest challenge.

If the Vikings and Cousins can't get together on a deal, Russ probably looks pretty good in that offense. I'm not a Vikes fan, but if they can get Russ on the cheap, get JJ signed long term, spend some draft capital on the defense, and still be able to afford another couple pieces on defense as a result, they could be pretty tough for a couple years.

This is true.

For as much as people like to pile on his offensive performances throughout his career, he's never played with a true A tier receiver. One could make the argument for DK, but he's right below the Mike Evans' of the world.

Received the corpse of Jimmy Graham, and made UDFA Baldwin a household fantasy name.

I think a dude like JJ could help make his life much easier, and they already have a stout run game in place.

I agree that the Vikings are a real possibility, but I would be so disappointed for them if they ended up with Russ. As much as I hope they move on from Kirk cousins, he would be a better fit for that offense.

Would New Orleans be a possibility? I gotta think they’re going to move on from Derick Carr I may have some decent offensive weapons with Olave and Kamara

Given draft order and entrenched starters - what’s realistic for him as a landing spot?

Raiders? Falcons?

i’m fascinated to see where he ends up. he wont go anywhere as a backup role, even on vet minumum. would the bears dare sign him as a bridge for Caleb or would that be bonkers to let Caleb sit for a year or half a year being the #1 pick? ok so scratch that idea.

Raiders - feels like most likely landing spot, but idk if the new coach wants “his own guy”

Minny - if Cousins leaves, I really like this spot for him.

Atlanta - assuming they don’t get Cousins or want Fields, another sneaky good spot for him with lots of weapons.

sleeper pick - NYG

I’m hoping it doesn’t happen, but I could see him ending up in MN assuming Kirk walks.
