Gotcha. With Harden struggling, would've been great for Giannis to come out with a monster game and extend the MVP race lead, the Bucks just dominate so many teams I don't blame them for resting him. He is going to have a lot less wear on him than a lot of these guys come playoff time.

Yeah that's just Bud's style. He plays to win [and the postseason] - why wear out your star when its unnecessary?

Edit- I think he's also trying to get the new guys some run before the playoffs too. Mirotic is playing a lot, and Canaan got some run. Connaughton just came back from injury not long ago and is playing some strong minutes.

The play the lakers and Jazz on a back to back Friday/Saturday. I am sure they don't want to lose either but he will play normal minutes Friday and probably rest all game saturday.

Barring a legit run at the Finals I think we're looking at peak prices right here. Bucks cruising and Giannis taking over the MVP race.

Yup, I bought the 9. I haven't seen another 9 come up anywhere in the last few months. Those who are thinking about selling will likely hold on until the MVP announcement and playoffs. I definitely paid more than I wanted to, was hoping to get it for $1750, but 5 years from now $1900 is going to seem cheap if he can keep up this level of performance. Big risk but also big reward.

I just got my Blue /66 back from PSA a few weeks ago. Nice 10 to get my subbing career started!

Different sport, but worth noting that Mookie's prices peaked last year in July before he (i) won the WS and (ii) won the MVP / batting title. I think people overestimate the room that is left to grow late in the season when so much is priced in. That being said, I think you still get a good bump if he wins a 'ship.

Agreed that this is probably about the peak

Why would you want to say he is peaking now? This seems like the ideal time to still get in. Historically, how were Curry and Harden priced this point in the season of their first MVP? I seem to remember being very busy keeping up with the rise in April and May of those years.

The MVP is built into his prices. He would need to win a title to see an even bigger bump. Curry's prices had come close to their peak around this time of the year, and that was when GS was pretty heavily favored to win the title.

That is mistaken.

Curry prices peaked around this time of his second MVP season. Oddly enough, they didn't win the title that year.

But much of the rest I agree with. Much of the MVP speculation is priced in, imo

What isn't priced in is an expectation that they can win this year. If they look good enough in the playoffs, or Golden State starts to falter, and people actually start believing that they can win it all, I think that's room for a spike.

Although, it's not an apples to apple comparison to the market 3 years ago; I'd say the market is hotter now overall, so maybe there is some room to go there.

Correct, I should have noted about it being this time of year during his 2nd season when prices spiked.

Warriors aside, let's not forget that the Raptors, Sixers, and (maybe) Celtics are no cake-walk in the East.

Agreed.

And that's the room for a bump.

Let's say Milwaukee blows through the second round, and over in the West, Golden State gets upset by Houston.

Suddenly, it would be reasonable think the Bucks had a pretty good chance to win it all.

A Giannis league MVP, Finals Win and Finals MVP would mean his stuff goes nuclear.

That being said, I'm getting way ahead of myself here.

Exactly. Giannis is only 24 years old. Just turned 24 too. Why on earth would his cards peak in value now, before he’s won any type of accolades? Personal or team oriented.

Imagine thinking LeBron’s RC’s peaked when he was 24. I think we’d all jump at the opportunity to buy his stuff at those prices again.

Wasn't talking about long-term

Just meant this season.

That's true they have a lot of room to grow if some other circumstances happen.

I do think a lot of these "ifs" are baked into some of the current pricing (mainly MVP). Finals win and they will go a lot higher but barring that I think you will see them holding or perhaps even cooling over the summer/next season barring another hot start.

He has a lot of potential, I just think people are getting a bit ahead of themselves if they are buying 3000 dollar silvers thinking they are going to be flipping these in a year or two for a lot more.

I look at your average Curry Chrome RC sale price in the last year and it isn't that much higher than some of the Giannis asking prices now, KD chromes quite a lot less, and both of them have a lot more accolades than Giannis at this point. I think if Giannis is as successful as Curry or KD you call that a great career. I just don't know how much actual room you have for these to grow barring winning in the Finals unless people are thinking he is the next Bron or MJ. I dunno how realistic that is at this point in time.

Not a player like Giannis. He DOES need a deep run in the playoffs for sure...ECF. At age 24... going to the Finals would be another huge bump. He doesn't have to win...just go to the Finals and his cards will go completely INSANE in the offseason.

Just look at Andrew Luck the year he led them to the AFC Championship against the Patriots. He didn't win...but at his age that's all he needed to do. His offseason hype was UNREAL. Pushed his Contenders 9.5s to $1800+

Again... look at Derek Carr a few seasons ago.... he was the next IT QB and his stuff went NUTTY.

Giannis with a deep run...a ECF Game 7 loss would do the trick... a Finals would be better... a Finals Win... at age 24... after winning the MVP...

I think all of his Black Prizm RCs ( black base, black mosaic, black auto) are pulled. You can see the auto one is on ebay now.

Default Giannis

Pumped to add this BGS 9.5 with the PSA 10 I already have. Always liked the shiny stuff.

Default Giannis Prices

The possible MVP is definitely baked into the current prices, but I do believe there is room for continued rise on a good playoff run. He hasn’t had that in his career yet, and a lot of the attention his cards are getting I think have to do with him being “NEXT”. A first real playoff run or especially showing in the ECF/Finals will play to that narative. This will separate him from players like Anthony Davis.

And there seems to be something different with how the hobby feels about him compared to players like Harden and Durant. Durant especially has the hardware and championships, yet we (collectively) don’t want to anoint him the next face of the league. That title is Lebron’s. And we thought for a minute there that Curry was about to take that (that’s when his stuff really went bonkers).

I think a lot of the interest we are seeing is not only in anticipation of him being MVP, but him being the next face of the league. And if that unfolds into reality, then truly sky IS the limit (aka Lebron prices)... National Treasures, Immaculate and Flawless are already astronomical.

Got the card today, I honestly don't see how the surface grade is an 8.5. regardless, happy to have this in the collection.

There's a little dot above Giannis' left shoulder. That's why.

Congrats on the card. Given the latest prices on the PSA 10s, I think you got a hell of a deal.

Wow good eye! In your experience does that knock down the surface grade 1.5 points - it's only visible when light shines just right.
