Is the golden ticket for the day the game occurred or the day Topps issued the card for the previous days games?

The day that is marked on the card. So it could be one or the other or both depending on when the game ended or event happened. Typically it is the day before the cards go on sale. So May 9th's Golden Tickets where the cards that sold on the 10th but the events happened on the 9th.

His cards sell at most 220 of the base copies. That doesn't scream (to me); lets go through all the effort to do an autograph relic of this guy.

True. No matter how much he smashes his cards just never print high. I'd definitely be a buyer if they made an auto but perhaps not many others have interest.
