I think you are correct, I think Galactics will never lose value and only go up.

Galactics are still a relatively new "big thing" but I would agree that it isn't farfetched to believe it could be the PMG of the future. Lot of things still need to go it's way, and collectors interest change as a whole very quickly, so I wouldn't say it's a guarantee and newcomers would be wise to throw caution in the wind. Regardless, they're great looking cards and the superstars and Showstoppers command the biggest premiums.

Just got this back from PSA:

Notice something about the majority of these show off posts?

They are mostly newer years' Galactics, not as much 2016 and barely any 2015.

It's been over 1 year since a LeBron 2015 base Galactic has hit eBay.

Over a year since a Giannis.

A year and a half since a Curry.

And so on. There's already a clear distinction between 2015 base and any other year. A smaller distinction between 2016 base and 17,18.

I have to imagine that distinction grows over time, sort of the way that Prizm Silvers have from '12 compared to other years.

Here's my two KG's from 2015 to balance out the show off posts (one graded and one raw)!

I've seen people claim in different places (including in eBay card descriptions) that Galactics are the PMGs of the future. I generally scoffed at those claims because the value differential is so massive at present and it is hard to predict the future. However, it got me thinking, if not the Galactic, then what is the premier non-rookie chase card of this generation? One way to try and predict this would be to identify the most desired non-rookie chase card now based on highest sales prices. My hypothesis is that Galactics are currently that card. My sense is that you just don't see other modern non-rookie cards going for $3-5K like the LeBron Galactics currently do. One exception might be Logoman cards.

My proposed project is to look at historical sales data over the last 12 months and identify the highest sales prices for non-rookie cards in recent years (e.g., 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18). I'd be curious to hear any feedback from the group before I start my research.
The 2015-16 galactic showstoppers and most of the 2016-17 galactic showstoppers were probably all bought up and hoarded by the same group who hoarded all the pmgs years ago. Make the market thirsty.. It's genius

That may be true, but I tend to think the opposite -- my guess is that the various years will even out over time. I've seen others on here express that view and I think that I agree. The difference with silvers is scarcity. I've heard that there are > 100 silvers in the 2012 print run vs. ~13 for base Galactics. It's a bit of apples and oranges.

You're right on the print runs being the same across all years, but it's more than that with these.

The more and more years that go by the more that sets will run together, other than the first year (maybe year 2).

In those first 2 years, first year especially, you had less inserts and less overall rare parallels. In '15 and '16 Galactics were the rarest of all parallels in Revolution; now you have Lava and Chinese Gold/8.

Plus the fact that first year stuff usually holds value better in this hobby:

If I'm looking at MJ:
1997 PMGs sell for better than 1998 PMGs, despite the print run.
1993 Finest refractors sell for better than 1994 Finest refractors, despite the print run.
1996 Topps Chrome refractors sell for much better than 1997 TC Refractors, despite not being that far off in print run.

Same with any 2003 Exquisite stuff that runs across multiple years (Limited Logos, etc)

I'm telling you, the '15s are worth much more now and are only going to further the distance from future releases as time goes by.

Ugh the Shai on ebay is being shilled, I haven't bid yet just saw the movement today

18 consecutive bids of $2 by a "buyer" who has 97% bid activity with the seller, who isn't even a big seller (~2000 feedback)

How many 15/16 Revolution Galactics are sitting in someone’s common box because they don’t know what card they have. First year Revolution did not have any printing listing the card type. 15/16 is still the best year IMO, but Revolution is by far my favorite release each year.

100%, just like the prizm golds, the first year will always be the most valuable.

I like em all really. I'm excited to see what designs they roll out this year.

I'm simultaneously relieved and bummed out that Giannis has no Showstopper insert though.

Question for those who have a few of the 2017-18 liftoffs. Do they all have a "scratch" mark running from left to right in the middle of the card? I have picked up a couple Wiggins and a Towns recently and mine all have them. Was wondering if any one else has noticed the same issue?

I got a couple. Way more than I wanted to pay but needed to get them. I'm pretty excited to show them off in here once I have the set in hand per say haha

Nice! I missed one that I wanted that went for a pretty good price, several others went for much more than what I paid a month ago, and others were in-between. I think there's definitely an advantage to the seller in ending many from the same set [especially a rare set] in the same night.

Looks like I am blowing up my collection to take care of some other stuff with the house that came up and try to reduce this paypal credit mound I have.

Hit me up if you are interested in anything in particular. I may wind up keeping one or two faves as keepsakes but most of my Giannis collection is gonna get moved. Figured I'd give you guys first crack before they head to Ebay for auctions.

Anyone else buying galactics on the bay? Lot's of great stuff on there recently.

I am up to 170 galactics (no duplicates) and am close to completing a few of the insert sets. Will share mail day pics once I get settled after a move.

Special thanks to Ninjabum for helping me get a bit closer on two of my galactic quests (17-18 base and 18-19 shockwave).
