I don't know, but reviewing the tipped ball at 1:06 just didn't "sit right" with me. I can't really explain much other than it seemed like a really lame use of replay to overturn posession in that close of a game.

I didn't have sound on for this game so I'm not sure how they explained it, but that's just my opinion as someone casually watching it.

That being said I thought Virginia was the better team. I think they win the game regardless of that review. Great season and congrats to Tony Bennett.

UVA going to be really strong next year too.

We are going to win a couple guys, but Coach Bennett will have us in a good spot.

It was a great game. I guess I'm in the minority of viewers who thought the officiating was actually quite fair.

Let's not forget that Tech almost had this game in regulation. They were up 3 with seconds left and Virginia hit THE big 3 to tie it up. Wide open in the corner. Pressure shot and the kid made it.

It's why he is a lottery pick this year.

Lol that’s not entirely true! In the ncaa’s official statement they said that the foul was indeed a foul (it was) and refused to comment on the missed double dribble. They def got lucky against auburn and probably should have lost that game but they didn’t so good for them. I didn’t think the refs were that bad tonight, other than the charge I didn’t think there was too many bad calls or missed calls. I have no horse in this race and was just happy for an entertaining game.

Because they would have to address the jersey grab before the double dribble that numerous head of officials have said today was a Flagrant 1.

Hunter picked a great time to have his career high.

Just a fantastic game, funny that people were complaining about the finals matchup.

Y’all are some stans. Are any of you whiners even TTU fans? Or just root against UVa because you’ve been doing it for years? First 1 seed to lose to a 16, boring basketball, can’t win in March. Blah blah blah. Been listening to it for years.

You should be celebrating the fact that one of the few clean coaches and clean programs in the country just won a National championship. It can be done. And for this group of young men to overcome what happened last year, it is the ultimate redemption story.

Never been happier for my school. Wahoowa!!!!!

Haha well I didn’t hear a single official or analyst argue that. Everyone downplayed it was it wouldn’t have been called at all. You guys definitely got lucky with that missed call! That doesn’t diminish you guys winning that game or tonight’s game though! Just acknowledging that you got a little lucky with the non call as most championship teams do. You’re team is the champs and should celebrate as such

That poor fella with the TexasTech $1500 bet to win $300K turned down $125K for the ticket yesterday....

Yeah TTech had a better run. They the real champs. Congrats TTech.
Always hate these arguments. Seeds don’t matter.

Let’s see...

Purdue outgunned #2 seed Tennessee. Who was the better team?

Auburn DESTROYED #1 seed UNC. Then beat #2 seed Kentucky. Who was the best team?

Texas Tech killed #2 seed Michigan. Then beat #1 seed Gonzaga. Then anihilated #2 seed Michigan State, who put away everyone’s favorite #1 seed Duke.

The difference between a 1 seed and a 2-3-4-5 seed in the tourney is so small. All it takes is one off night shooting on offense, or you running into a hot team from 3 to be out of the tourney. There is a huge component of luck in winning it all.

I’ll never understand why people try to bring down others in their moment of celebration.

Cavaliercards, this is a big big day for you. Enjoy it. Congrats.

Iona gave us the flu! We gave it to Auburn players. I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of your guys come down with it but it doesn't matter because there's no more games. This is gonna be one of those years where I look back and say what coulda been.

So either way, the game would have been different if the refs made the right calls in the last minute. Maybe Virginia would have won, maybe not. It's not Virginia's fault that the refs blew calls but it does make their win feel much less legitimate.

The NCAA needs to figure out a better way to ref games at the end. I don't really follow teams other than the Gophers until March but from the games I saw, a decent portion of the close games had bad calls down the stretch. And not bad calls because they didn't go my team's way; the Gophers had multiple wins that felt unfair because of missed calls.

I don't know what the answer is but there needs to be one. We obviously don't want to make the last few minutes of games even longer with more replays but at some point, if they aren't going to get the key calls right, what was the point of playing the game? It's one of the biggest things keeping me from getting into basketball more. With the other 3 major sports, even if there are blown calls, I rarely feel that they had a huge impact on the game. With basketball, it feels like the call accuracy is very bad in key times and certain calls are rarely made when they should (particularly traveling on layups and 3 seconds) which has a huge impact on how the game is played.

Flagrant happened a second before the double dribble and caused it. So UVA would have had free throws and the ball, which would have sealed it just like the foul on 3PT did. All sports have issues imo.

Let’s not forget about the no call on the Culliver charge against Clark near the end of regulation. Or do we only cry about calls that favor UVa?
