I’ve kind of said this not too long ago. I personally think he is trying to make up for the short season and keep at pace with greats like Mantle in the HR category, which is bringing down his walks and increasing his strikeouts. Trout knows his team isn’t going to make the playoffs.. and even if they do, the team isn’t strong enough to be a factor. Trout is in his prime years and I’m sure he wants at least 20-30 HR’s in this short season.. which is probably why he didn’t opt out of playing this year after the birth of his kid.

Here is one of the things I really appreciate about Trout:

Last night, seventh inning, SF brings in Anderson who was clearly throwing at him the other day- dangerously so. Angels are down a lot and he had done mostly nothing in the game. Second pitch Anderson is up and in - clearly intentional (can’t believe they don’t fine him). Trout takes it in stride- Maddon goes off on the ump for a bit and they consult. Next pitch Trout takes a ball almost out of the park- hits the top railing and bounces back. No watching the shot or bat flips or anything else to show up the pitcher (which I may have done, to be honest), he just burns around the bases and slides into third on what would have been a double for most. Great hustle on the play vs. a pitcher that deserved some trash talking/showing up. Of course the Angels couldn’t get him in (SF walked him in), but still show how he still is trying.

I saw the video from last night. It looked like a high fastball. Wasn't even inside lol

There’s a very simple answer here and it has nothing to do with his individual accomplishments. Trout is evolving as a player: away from 30+ steals and toward 50 HR run producer because A) that’s what 30+ year olds do; and, B) that’s what his team needs out of their 3-hole hitter.

Yeah, it was high and over the plate but essentially on the inside corner. Definitely wasn't the same as the other night when he almost took Trout's head off a couple times.

Crazy thing is I think the new fans want Trout to be the bat flipping, crotch grabbing, yelling at pitcher kind of player. Because he’s not, he’s labeled as boring and not fun. I actually look at it more from a stance that Trout let’s his bat do the talking.
I appreciate his Teddy Roosevelt approach to his game. In the end that’s what people will remember.
There are plenty of awesome personality guys that were fun to watch who aren’t and won’t be in the HOF.

After what went on the other night- for someone who has “no control” over his pitches according to the managers (whether we believe it or not), he shouldn’t have come that close. Watch the other batters around him- no other pitches were that close.

Very good perspective Coach about transitioning into a HR hitter and sacrifice steals. Only downfall is his Ks will be up and walks down because he'd be swinging at everything
