Thought I would update, as PSA has deactivated the PSA 8 Brady cert (65308607) and has Goldin canceled the sale.

It has been brought to our attention that lot 925 (2000 Panini Playoff Contenders # 144 Tom Brady signed rookie card)in our August auction (closed 8/21) was likely an altered card. As such Goldin has voided the sale and the card will be removed from our auction results."

We've seen numerous PSA reviews of altered cards end up coming back as good, so it will be interesting to see if this cert returns.

It looks like the entire left side of the card was trimmed up, hard to tell but doesn't look like they changed the size at all. Crazy.

Smith, Mason and Wirfs form arguably the best trio on one team at LT, RG and RT, so there’s that.

Goedeke appears to be having growing pains, understandable. Hainsey was a third round pick last year so hopefully he’s up for it.

Too late to pickup a starter it seems, who should they try and get for depth? I’m assuming whoever they realistically can that’s good when the cuts come on Tuesday?

I could be wrong, any chance they pick up a starter? I could see someone that’s been around a while starting on short notice over Goedeke

I was offer a PSA 9 2000 Impact for $370. I’m looking for my first Brady RC, but was hoping for something a bit nicer. Is it worth buying at this at a decent price, and then trading or selling this towards a better one in the future? It is one of his least desirable RC’s, but at least I’d have one. Thoughts?

I'd wait to buy something nicer. It's a rookie card but you're still going to want to upgrade. You can always get one of those - every box I opened had two or three in it.

I would honestly wait a few more months, save up some more $$ and try to get something of his numbered in PSA 9.

Just curious, why in the world would you wait a few more months? Prices are only going to rise around playoff time, maybe even significantly

Perhaps he is more realistic unlike you who has been saying Brady cards will only go up in value. His card prices (Contenders auto, SPA, SPX, BC) have been down 30-50% since you have been preaching the mantra "Brady cards are the safest bet, recession proof and will only go up in value". The stock market could drop another 20% and the Buccaneers may not make a deep playoff run leading to further decline in prices.

EDIT: There is a good chance that the prices of some of the cards such as Brady 2000 BC PSA 10, SPA BGS 9.5, PSA 10 may not reach the peak pandemic prices for another 5-10 years.

My friend just won the Contenders BGS 9.5 at Golden for 208k last weekend. The previous 2 sales were 452k and 600k so that's a huge drop on a pop 15 grail Brady RC!

A Contenders PSA 10 sold for 2.89 million in Aug 2021 at PWCC premier auction. Fast forward one year, a PSA 10 sold for 750K last month, also at PWCC premier auction. That is ~75% drop from the peak!

FWIW the first one also had a 10 auto grade, and there are only two that are 10/10. The recent PSA 10 was one of 13 I think that do not have the auto grade. Does that factor in?

I knew this would be brought up. The auto grade and pop 2 could have been a factor but I highly doubt it would fetch more than a million if it was auctioned now. The Auto on the PSA 10 that sold for 750K looked like a 10 to me. I am fairly certain that at least 50% of the PSA 10's without the auto grade (pop 13) will get an auto grade of 10 if submitted now. PSA did not offer dual grading (both card and auto grade) until a few years ago. I could be wrong but my guess is that most of those PSA 10's without auto grade were graded before PSA started offering the dual grade.

I'm not in the high-end market so I don't pretend to have done the same due diligence as those bidders. But when I saw the card from last year being advertised as Pop 2, I did think it was one of only two cards graded as 10 for condition (regardless of auto). So I can see how it was misleading, and I hope the those bidders knew better than me haha.

I asked because I find auto grades and their impact to be confusing. I personally wouldn't pay a premium for a 10 auto grade over a card with a great looking auto and no auto grade.

That was a PSA 10/10 vs just a PSA 10. So not apples to apples exactly. A PSA 10 had a previous high of 555k so the 750k sale was actually the highest ever for a PSA 10.
