I love Eric Davis. I don't love the choice of the pinstriped uniform or the high school yearbook posed image that was used.

I’d have to agree with the forced smile as well. Not the greatest reference photo.

100 percent agreed. Eric Davis was a star in the 80s… this is obviously from ’96 and it’s just not the same. Sadly I can’t help but be disappointed… was really looking forward to his card as well.

Angel deserves this one. It's way past time he has a print run shoot to the moon!
I'd love it if Topps could pull a last minute rabbit out of its hat and make the Black Bio Text in kanji for the short print variations. |

20,966. I would love to see this PR surpass his Angles card.

Topps ignored my request to pair a 4th Jean Segura card with Ohtani's release. I thought it would be fun to set a new record for Most Appearances (and possibly, Lowest PR) in the set the same week Ohtani hopefully sets new record for his highest PR.

Really liking seeing more of the jerseys in the recent offerings.
Jared, not sure how you got the breard to have so much detail. Great job. |

I like the artwork well enough, but the design of the card is underwhelming, especially the nameplate. I’m curious to see who else they choose, as that should give us some idea of who we can push for in the Living Set. I’m slightly annoyed that Paige is featured as a Monarch after they chose to portray him with an MLB team for this set. Still grateful we got him, just wished Topps executed the release better.

Agree. Topps hoping the timing is right now for more Living Set Negro League cards with this year’s Rickwood Field game in Birmingham, Alabama. I believe you have 37 MLB HOF legends to pick from (minus the few we already have and treasure). I’m petitioning for ‘Cool Pappa’ Bell next, with obvious back card quote “he was so fast he could get into bed b4 the light got dark”, or “he could steal 2 bases on 1 pitch”. Or perhaps another former Black Baron player. Maybe Mule Suttles or Willie Wells. |

I'm having trouble finding information on the one and only year the San Francisco Seals played in the West Coast Negro Baseball League (1946), but the Giants will be wearing the Seals' road uniforms for the game. They've previously worn them once before, in Atlanta during the 2014 season. Jared, any chance we can get Topps to have some level of crossover with this limited set and the Living Set for the upcoming game at Rickwood Field? We have four more Wednesdays until the game scheduled for Thursday, June 20.

This new Rickwood set might explain why. Seeing it on sale now makes me think the chances are low that the Living Set will get Negro League inclusions that week. Perhaps Topps is wanting to limit buyer choices and funnel all Negro League interest into the higher priced Rickwood set to maximize profit margins? Topps has known how much Living Set collectors have wanted Negro League inclusions in the set for years and it's still a slow trickle. I've been told in the past that it's "licensing" issues. While I still think the timing would be perfect, I'd keep my expectations realistic if I were a collector. ![]() What would you guys think of Topps amending the Living Set rules to allow Negro League players to be featured once on their Negro League team as well as once on their MLB team? That would open the door up for another Mays, Satchel, Robinson card. Last edited by jaredkelley; 05-24-2024 at 10:30 AM. |

As for amending the rules, my selfishness wants to say yes, but I know there are other collectors on this board vehemently against it, and I understand their reasoning, too. I do think the Living Set will need some level of flexibility going forward, especially if licensing issues truly are the reason we don't get as many Negro League players, or former players in general. As has been discussed before, I think Topps shot themselves in the foot when they limited retired players to one card, while active players can continue to receive additional entries, provided they're appearing with a new team. That is the primary reason I've been okay with amending the rules to allow for one appearance per player per team. Again, I know this is selfish on my part, and as I've stated before, I'd much rather see the collectors invested from the beginning stick with us over seeing my own selfish desires realized. I'm sure there's some kind of compromise that can be reached, and I hope Topps is willing to listen to the artists and collectors regarding the Living Set and its future.

I'm thinking specifically of the Nippon League. I'd love to see players like Sadaharu Oh included in the Living Set. I would personally love to see the Living Set become representative of all of baseball's history, including other leagues that have directly influenced the MLB historically. |
