I doubt it. But I had a blue Father's day that I sold a while ago. Got some numbered pajamas at PSA but I bet you have those too. Keep in mind, I'm riding the train to the bottom. lol Fingers crossed he gets hot like Ohtani or Vlad. Then I'll sell. For now I'll just whine.

Do you have a full checklist? I'm sure I'm missing some.

I don’t think hitting was or is the issue here, at the moment he isn’t bringing anything extra to the table so even though he will remain important to the team his hobby relevance is declining rapidly, there are a lot of players that have good hitting ability but are nowhere near where Soto is priced and there lays the problem, it’s not a good sign when collectors/investors appear to be happy when Soto gets a base hit.

US300's were selling for $300 Two months later they are going for $130 and dropping. They'll be under $100 soon. Most of his RC cards have dropped significantly in this short time. His decline is not rapid and I agree he's only 22. But he is quickly losing hobby love. This is concerning. People can say "I'm buying" and "He is 22" or "Lineup sucks!" or "It has only been 50 games". But can anyone say this drop in price is not a big deal?

Soto brought in a lot of non-baseball fan money in the off-season. The hype buyers are fickle and will take a loss to get out. Combined with the general market drop and a correction for Soto's lack of power, the decline seems like a standard situation where the market got ahead of itself. I'd say it has overreacted on the other side now, but I'm not buying either. Then again, I'm not buying anything cardboard at the moment.
But as someone still holding a good bit of Soto, I'm not concerned. I made the mistake of overreacting in early 2019 and paid for it. Won't do that again. |

Yah, I'm going to hold as well. He is a good player.
But I'm honest when I say I am worried that I should have sold more when the time was right. I don't think I missed the boat but I bet it will be some time the prices get back to where they were.

If you’re holding rare stuff I think you have a good shot at some point in the next couple years to get back to where they were with a dominant hot streak to start a season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And he's not that far away..it's just the ISO is so poor. By all other accounts he's having a good year. His OPS is only .100 behind where Trouts was when he won his first MVP. Soto is having what many believe is a horrible year and is still only one good three game series with a couple of bombs away from being in the same ballpark OPS wise from the other young superstars. |

Man.. I wonder how many people said Vlad Jr prices will never go back up when he hit 9 home runs, .262 batting average, and a .329 OBP last year?
Some people are funny.

Even though Soto market is down I feel pretty good about this pickup last week on the 2018 TT PSA 10 auto #/99 from my slabs for $1000. Auction ending in 3 hours for same card at $1500 already.

And Soto is #4 in the MLB in OBP during his "slump". He's not crushing homers ATM. I think that's the extent of the "problem".

Ok. Fair enough. I took "rapidly" and "declining hobby relevance" too literally.
Maybe his prices went up too quickly and he's settling back into what would be considered a normal pattern. It's happening with a lot of players, btw. |

The Soto situation is pretty simple: He hasn’t hit with much power this season, so many of the buyers who contribute to a player’s hobby rise are losing interest and/or confidence.
For these people, their interest/confidence in a player’s cards needs to be fueled like a hot-air balloon. Soto isn’t hitting home runs or batting .300 or carrying an elite OPS, so the balloon is descending. However, if he goes on a hot streak, these people will come rushing back as the balloon re-ascends. Of course, he has to actually start hitting home runs and driving in runs in bunches for this to happen. But it’s hard to imagine a player of Soto’s caliber not figuring it out soon enough. And when he does, people will remember why they spent so much money on his cards in the first place—and want to do it all over again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
