It blows my mind that it blows peoples minds that the print run was 30, 35, even 40k. If this card was released a month from now the print run would have been triple what it was.

This is really hard to believe, although I don’t know much about art. I thought he was a jewelry designer.

As a collector, I LOVE the product. Very unique for what WE are used to, but I really think this is a product for hobbyists—more than high-$ art collectors. The huge production #’s are likely reflective of those who are buying bulk rates to flip—a common practice for most Topps online-releases. These cards will always sell for more than bulk rates once production closes. It’s bringing out more card collectors and investors but I just think this product wouldn’t register much on a non-hobby/sports true ART collector’s world. Maybe some really die-hard collectors of the artists, but I’m hesitant to declare Project 2020 as penetrating deep into art world. Unless any of you know something?
I would guess that at *least* half of my card sales have been from fans of my art (many of which collected baseball cards sometime in their life but had not purchased a baseball card in decades)

I realize that is anecdotal, and I am guessing based solely from comments and messages I have gotten. But I think it's pretty safe to assume that Project 2020 is bringing some attention form people who were not actively collecting cards before the project started.

Also worth noting - the art collectors of mine are not just buying one card. They are buying 10+ because spending $150 on "art" by me is by far the least amount they have ever paid. (My originals range from 1500-7.5K)

In my best Forest Gump voice...I'm not a smart man but I know beauty when I see it. Some of his jewelry is off the chain.

This.....if you got sports fans in the family, easy gift that they'll cherish.

Sure, but not in the sense that this project is. I could be way off, I just found it crazy that this guy could be considered a top 100 artist of the millennium. If you told me he was a top 100 jewelry designer, sure. But these guys aren’t designing jewelry for this project.

Hey I'm a gemologist, and goldsmith. Remember guys like me are the ones who have to cast the piece then sit there for three days to pave set 10,000 1mm round diamonds in a piece by guys like Baller. We're the real artists, it's a terrible strain on the eyes, back and hands! I can draw up any design on a sketch pad and colored pencils(well now just a computer) for some other guy to try and execute it.

Could you educate me here, since I'm not really sure and I haven't seen one in hand. Are the "Artist Proof's" coming from Topps just the base card with some hand numbering and the silver frame?

This is usually the case. I hope you are well compensated for this.

So there isn’t anything inherently special about the Artist Proofs then?

Just hand numbered and the frame?

Just trying to understand why they are so sought after.

If it were original art, I would understand.

Awesome post! I really appreciate your insight. That is great that people outside the hobby are getting into it and it’s not just another Topps “online gimmick” to try to get our money!!

We all see the baseball card first but I think it’s awesome that your fans are seeing the “Blake Jamieson” in each piece first—and can add a full line of your card designs at a great price. Maybe over time, that merges—we gain exposure to your stuff and your fans see the “art” in more cards. I know it’s already pretty easy to identify the artist just by the first 2-3 pieces from each. That’s been a fun “learn” for me.

Even if the 2 worlds stay separate, it is a cool time now to walk together with this common content. I know we all slam Topps regularly here, but this project took some serious coordination to bring together and it’s important for us as collectors to acknowledge that. This it turning out to be something special for all.

Of the PSA/BGS/SGC sizes, PSA is the best. It’s not *perfect*, but it’s very good. Superior Fit makes sleeves designed for different size One-Touch cases, but I don’t have any right now.

I’m very happy with the fit and how they look in the PSA sleeves.

I just did a PSA and it does really well. It does have a bit of overlap obviously...but the actual fit is good.

I just ordered the Pro-Mold 150-180 to try out. The 180 Ultra Pro 120-180 were sold out.

180 Ultra Pro 120-180 - Are these supposed to be the right size for this thickness of cards?

I think for a few of the artists (like Baller), there is no "original art" because it was all done digitally.

I'd imagine they also give up some if not all of the rights to produce the piece as well, or they wouldn't have to buy their own cards to sign and sell and could just sell prints, but maybe Blake can speak on that.
