OOf, the collectors are brutal toward the defensive masters of yore: Topps MLB® Living Set® Card #749 - Devon White - PR: 1280

We had done such a good job of keeping out of the 1200s recently too ... I guess that's the benefit of being in season.

The reality is that the only people still collecting this are a few die-hards.

It's pretty hard to justify paying $6 for cards of common players with print runs of 1000+.

In any other context, these would be <$1 cards in a commons bin.

Can you think of any other set/product in which someone would pay $6 for a card of Devon White or Chris Sale with a print run of 1000+?

I'll find those cards if you show me another set that you've made a list like the above for. Deal?

Look, you keep calling these cards commons. You keep comparing it to any other set. You're free to your opinion but you don't understand what makes this set shine. Complain about the price all you want but don't compare it to a card that falls out of a pack of flagship.

It's baseball cards without the gambling* and I'm willing to pay a premium for that. You aren't so why not go collect the other sets that are cheaper you find to be on exactly the same level as set? Why are you here? Why are you making lists?

* Except the black bio text.

Because I do collect cards from this set (primarily just the GOATs), and am annoyed (like many others) at the decisions Topps has made regarding the checklist and who does/does not get cards.

I'm willing to pay $6 for a card of a GOAT.....I'm not willing to pay anything close to that for most of the names Topps is putting in the checklist.

The original statement was why Devon White only had a print run of just over 1200 cards.....I was trying to explain why.....

This set has an organic and authentic quality to it. There are no shiny gimmick inserts or synthetic 1 of 1s , etc. It’s a historical uniform set with original artwork and low print runs. As the depth of players grows it increasingly becomes unrivalled. To m those elements have potential to creat a perfect storm amongst collectors at some point . Simple put, there is no other set like it. While I can’t predict the future (nobody can) I can see this as being a set collectors seek out years down the road.

I’m “all in” on building it as PSA 10.First because I love the set and second because having it in PSA 10 gives me something exceptionally rare.

Why have a mash of random unmatched cards when you can get all the players matching as part of the same set ? There is a subcategory of collectors who like sets and as the only ongoing true historical set these “ commons” are different.

Think about it, only 1100 or so full sets can exist based on the lowest print run. I like those numbers. No gimmicks. Then try to build it in PSA 10. I see it as the set for those with fine taste and for those who want to be unique,

I just want Shawon Dunston.

Why?

Because he is my favorite player?

No. Just because.

I was able to access the page after logging in.

I hope this isn't a new requirement from Topps.

Hey guys - Just wanted to give you a heads up that I'll be dropping 4 new sets of artist-signed cards this evening on my site at 6pm central time. Each of these is limited edition of 25 total cards (20 black ink, 5 silver foil) + bonus 1/1 Gold Foil randomly included in one pack. I suspect the Yamamoto will go fast. Sorry I didn't give more of an advanced notice.

Debuted in 1984 as a nineteen year old to lead a starting staff of young up & comers, then explodes in his second year to win a Cy Young award. Becomes a franchise icon at a ridiculously young age as the ace of World Series champion, and looks like a sure-fire hall of famer in the making before injuries started taking their toll. Still, he hung around through the ‘90s, compiled over 50 WAR, made several All Star appearances, and is remembered as one of the best pitchers of the 1980s and a premier “What If?” case in baseball history.

But enough about Bret Saberhagen. Dwight Gooden is also a pretty good inclusion in the set.

According to a post on another page Chris Sale (Braves) is the new print run low at 954 !! With all the players in the set I'm somewhat surprised if this is the number. Chris Sale is having a great year and certainly more popular than a lot of players who have been featured.

I wonder if Topps will take note ? Is it a reflection of collectors growing tired of repeat active players?

I'm disappointed in seeing the first under 1000 print run.

Topps Archive has the same print run.

Even Jared Jones only had a print run of 1,279, one less than Devon White from the week before.

I bet these are both mistakes.

They changed the star wars throwback thursday print run a week ago (granted it was adjusted far downward).

Maybe they didn't add the bundles? That is a significant drop.
