Alright maybe they aren't mistakes, maybe everyone dumped every last dime they had into this print run?

That is insane!

Easily the highest print run for a Topps on-demand card, and maybe any on-demand card, regardless of brand.

Will definitely be easy to find cheaply on eBay if anyone missed out.

I grabbed 5 for like $6.50 just a couple days ago. Probably will be between $2-3 for a long time once in hand.

The Chris Sale print run is now showing as 1349.

Yeah and Jared Jones went from 1,279 to 1,767 which although still low for him is much much more realistic.

Sale: 1349-954 = 395
Jones: 1767-1279 = 488

So arbitrary. If they were bundles they missed you'd think those numbers would match?

I wonder if today's Aaron sets a new precedent for retired players to be featured more than once, provided they played for multiple teams, or if this is a one-time exception to coincide with his career HR mark.

The card is beautiful, and it's cool to see a retired Hall of Famer featured more than once, but I know there are some folks that will disagree with the latter.

This is huge. It definitely opens the door for Team collectors. For example, I'd be pretty disappointed if I were a Mariners fan knowing Randy Johnson would never get a card for his time with Seattle.

This Hank Aaron card will definitely draw mixed reactions from collectors. Although it breaks tradition, it's hopefully a healthy evolution that will help it feature a more complete view of baseball's history. From a selfish perspective, I am really excited with the possibility of Angel and me getting a shot at painting some of the legendary players that Mayumi Seto rendered in the first few years of the set.

I think Topps realized that Aaron on card no.755 was a no-brainer for this iconic set, possibly feeling a little regret releasing Aaron in 2018 rather than holding him back for this moment. (Gives me hope Topps will get it right on card no.762 as well )

I'm curious to see how this new Hank Aaron affects the demand of the 2018 Aaron on secondary market. It'd be great if values increase as collectors chase both Aaron cards.

I don't know what Topps' plans are for future legendary sequels, but today's Aaron card opened that door.

For those of you who are excited with this change, which other retired players would you like to see reappear in the set on a new team?

This is ultimately where my mind goes, too.

Very few people are collecting the full set, and as has been discussed here, there are so many ways to approach sets within the set for collectors, with team collectors presumably being one of the largest subsets.

I do hope they're even more selective with repeat retired players if this is not a one-time exception, as there are many more players I'd still like to see first, but either way it will be an interesting development.

Babe Ruth with the Boston Red Sox is the first one that comes to mind.

I'd love to see Reggie Jackson on both the Yankees and A's.
Frank Robinson on the Reds in addition to his Orioles card.
And someday, I can soothe my broken heart with a Mookie Betts Red Sox Living Set card!

I feel this definitely prolongs the set and gives a more complete history of the game. Clemens on the Red Sox , Ryan as an Astro, McGwire as a Cardinal.

If Topps is looking to create some buzz, drop #761 as Pirate and #762 as a Giant in the same week.

Not a Hall of Famer yet, but how about Clemens as a Red Sox...Sock.. whatever, as a Boston player.

Also, question about Gavin Stone's card. Shouldn't he have a rookie shield? According to Baseball Reference, he holds that status until the end of the season.

As a collector of the entire set, I am thrilled with this change. Opens many possibilities for multi-team hall of famers such as Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson, Frank Robinson, Paul Molitor, Lou Brock, Scott Rolen, Larry Walker, Randy Johnson, Joe Morgan, Mike Piazza, Steve Carlton, Mike Mussina, Roy Halliday and many others. Also, I am happy with the opportunity to buy the portraits of players like Hank Aaron.

Good intentions from Topps at the outset but a decision that was not well thought out has been corrected today...and a hell of a way to fix it! 1-2 cards of duplicated retired players a year seems just right...we don't have to go crazy on these (nor is there much room to play with in 2024...36 cards left to produce this year...Skenes and Holliday take 2 spots so 34 surprises left).

So this means I can get 2015 World Series champions as Royals now, right? Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Wade Davis, Johnny Cueto, etc.? And Carlos Beltran can be a Met *and* a Royal!

I already figured that was when the next Royals card was slated for anyway!

Also, any chance of getting Topps to change the Aaron nameplate from black to red? The Brewers were an American League team when he played for them.

While this would be a nice fix, unfortunately, we've already had this same issue with previous cards.

All Astros cards are featured with a red nameplate since they are currently an AL team, regardless of the league affiliation at the time of the featured player.

Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, and Roy Oswalt were all released with red nameplates, even though their careers with Houston were all played in the NL.

But they’ve also fixed it before, as well. Robin Yount was originally shown with a black nameplate, but it was fixed to be red before printing when we pointed it out. It was the same story for Frank Howard more recently - originally black, but changed to red when we pointed out his Senators were an AL team.

Good point on both counts.

Jared, any chance we can get Topps to change the Aaron nameplate to red?

Thinking about this a step further, I wonder if the Biggio, Bagwell, and Oswalt cards should be considered uncorrected errors since the nameplate color doesn't match the team's league.

The most perplexing one like this is Tony Gwynn - I’m still not sure why they made that one red.
