I graded a gold about a month ago, similar condition and it came back a 9. Cracked it and sent it to BGS and got a 9.5. I’d say yours will get a 9 from PSA but may be worth sending to BGS first to try for a 9.5. Costs you $100 or so for the attempt, and you may have a only a 30% shot at the 9.5... but if you get lucky, it’s worth a fair amount more. Better than Vegas odds!

Bottom left looks worse then the right unless I'm seeing something that isn't there.

Yeah it’s a wonky pic (technical term) as there is zero white on the left in person...the bottom right is what’s spotted at first glance

Worth grading no matter the grade just because of the card it is. I'd send to BGS first just because it's the cheaper way to go. Doesn't PSA charge based on the value of the card?

Truth be told - I’ve Collected for 30 years and have NEVER had a card graded...and 95% of what I buy is raw. That sounds right though as the local card shop (Burbank sports cards) said it’d be over $500 to grade via PSA which was a why I thought to ask on this forum. I have a raw trout prospect auto as well and they said it’s be over $1000!

Is that because of the insurance required? If not, that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.

I've never had a card graded either and I'd only consider PSA for 1 card. Otherwise I would use BGS just because I like the slab and that it gives details of how the card was graded(subs).

That’s a great question - I vapor locked when they said how much it would be. But I believe you nailed the descriptor perfectly...dumb.

Not sure if it gives the reasoning but here is the price guide for PSA

Grade it. For that card, it should have a grade regardless of company. BGS would be cheaper and faster to grade.

So I wanted a Trout project and settled on this for now. Flagship base and SP variations. I'm more a vintage guy so wanted to run this checklist by you guys to make sure I'm not missing something. Not worried about update (other than 175), league leaders, award winners, etc. Just flagship base variations. Does this list seem complete?

2011 Update 175 - No variations

2012 Topps 446 - No variations

2013 Topps 27 - Base / Jumping at wall / Signing Autos

2014 Topps 1 - Base / Sparkle / Gatorade Bath / USA Future Stars

2015 Topps 300 - Base / Sparkle

2016 Topps 1 - Base / Camo Numbers / Pointing Bat

2017 Topps 20 - Base / Running In Dugout / Holding Bat

2018 Topps 300 - Base / Holding Bat / Red Jersey

2019 Topps 100 - Base / Wearing Suit

2020 Topps 1 - Base / Signing Autos / Reverse Negative

Also a couple questions...

I'm assuming the two sparkles are going to be the most difficult to track down?

The 2017 and 2018 holding bat are the same photo. Am I missing something.?

I've seen some "New Era Cap" SP's. These are not flagship base variations correct?

2015 Topps A1 - Same question as above?

I think I can help with your Topps Flagship Variation list. I have a thread dedicated just for my Trout variations in Flagship, TC, Stadium Club, & Opening Day. My Flagship list is up to date:

1. Yes, they’re pretty rare and barely pop on the market. On top of them being rare, most people also overlook them and they end up in boxes with other cards.

2. You’re correct. I read somewhere that the story is: a new Topps employee that was in charge of the 2018 variations happened to pick that photo, not knowing it was already used the year before.

3. Those “New Era” cards are just special cards made to promote their brand. They’re not technically “variation” cards because they don’t have the same card number as the base card.

4. If I remember correctly, the “A1” is from the team set that Topps sells separately. These are also not technically “variation” cards because they don’t have the same card number as the base card.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

I'd send it to BGS first to try for that 9.5. 5-Day is $100 and you'd have it back in a couple weeks.

Then if it only comes back a 9, crack it and send it to PSA. I'd send it Express, which is $75. I sent my gold Express and even though it came back a 9, which would put it above $2500, they did not upcharge me. Even if they do upcharge you, oh well.

Try downloading the Tapatalk app and updating pictures through there. I've never had problems with that

Someone educated me. Why aren't Trout's minor league cards more desirable/expensive? Is it just due to them not being Topps? I've been picking them up for cheap for my PC because I think they're pretty unique and showcase Trout before he was a star (I promise that this isn't me pumping, I'm generally wondering if anyone has an explanation)
