After looking at numbers, pop reports, other individual’s breaks I think Obsidian is the key rookie long term. Prizm/silver effect and all base cards are serial numbered (the parallels are even more fantastic). True base cards out of 165 were seeded 1 per pack on average. Here’s my PSA 10 Obsidian Ansu Fati RC #/165 with the complete set. A lot can be accomplished when you don’t waste your money on breaks that are clearly inflated by everyone.

Out of curiosity, what is it about Chrome that people prefer besides the name recognition? It is not a particularly appealing card design. Except for the carbon fibers (which I agree look really nice), the color is barely noticeable.

To me, the combination of scarcity and card design make the Pitch Kings Fati most desirable.

I suppose at the end of the day the shiny cards may always take the prize, but I don't really understand the fascination with chrome/prizm.

For me it's still Megacracks at the base level and as the "iconic card"; it's established itself, looks good and echo's with the Messi RC . The comparison with TC refractors / colour is hard as they're very different things appealing to different parts of the market. You could roughly try to equate things (maybe a psa 10 MGK ~ psa 10 Purple/blue refractor) but they're so different neither side would make the trade (unless they had excess of one and wanted to diversify).

I like Chrome for the stock and colour variation. The name brand of it adds something too, that I can't deny.

For this year though and for Fati & Haaland, it's come too late and at too odd a time for it to be come iconic in my view. I'd reserve that for the MGK for Fati and then the Finest & Bundesliga Sticker for Haaland.

Bellingham's Chrome next Spring though....

Lets add a twist on this. Assuming they are all the same grade which would you rather own

Cracked ice / 23
Orange regular chrome /25
Sapphire orange / 50

The first 2 of those have sold for around 4k recently as a 9. would you rather have the MGK PSA 10?

MGK PSA 10
Other 2 PSA 9

In that order in my opinion.

Why not use the Sapphire purple /25 instead of the orange /50? More similar print run.

I'd have a hard time choosing between the Purple Sapphire and Orange TC. If pressed, I likely take the Purple.

I'd take either of them(any of the 3 above really) over a MGK PSA 10. This post might not age great but I have a STRONG feeling it will. TC would still be king in any of the bigger sports if they still had a license(Basketball/Football at least. It never has caught on with Baseball...see BC).

I just assumed everyone would take the Sapphire purple if given the choice. The other two have sold in the same ballpark. Im not sure what the Sapphire purple will go for but I assume higher.

Agree with others that a cracked ice would trump a lot. The challenge any of the Topps Chrome has is the number of parallels. Sure, Orange is #25... but there are also the carbons, and the golds, and the reds, and the other reds, and the sapphire oranges, and the Sapphire purples, and the and the and the... where with Cracked ice... it's the only parallel. The ONLY VERY SLIGHT risk I see with the chronicles (not really a risk - but might limit the longer term popularity) is that it's from a set of sets. There's always a chance Panini doesn't do a contenders product (or product inside of a product) some year. And I think even in that instance, the Ice still plays because it's a cracked ice and incredibly limited.

Chrome is my favorite product so personal choice for me but given equal grade I could see the Cracked Ice being ahead of Chrome in Orange and Sapphire in Purple as far as value goes.

Right. My reading comprehension isn't great(I didn't read your post well, haha). I didn't see the mention of $$$. I was going off of what I'd prefer to have in my collection.

Collection would still go: Purple TCS > Orange TC > Cracked Ice

If I was "investing" it might switch up a little: Purple TCS = Cracked Ice > Orange TC
