You don't get it, obviously no one gives a crap about them NOW but they did when they were young.

Look at Brauns first five years and MVP.
Hobby was all over him.
You have no memory or were never around.

Hottest young stars will be yesterday's news in the future and probably accomplish less than the players you are down playing.

No one even cares about Miggy and he put up better numbers than Trout.

No one will be excited for acuna/soto in 15 years.
This is how this hobby works.

The BEST part of the Zombie Apocalypse will be finding these stashes and busting wax while waiting for the herd of zombies to pass outside. Go ahead and keep it sealed for me!

To those who are coming in to this thread with the negative comments: WHY?

Boredom? Jealousy? Just want to be a hater? Wanting to stir the pot? Need an ego boost?

I'm not a fan of topps project 2020. You don't see me spewing negative comments in that thread or even going into that thread.

TBP: you were right!

This thread just has me salivating over what could be in some of these boxes.. I unfortunately have no self control, and therefore open everything I buy.

Shouts to ya'll that can sit there and marvel at the boxes and their beauty and not rip.

There's some middle road in this conversation. Yes, the market is skyrocketing right now and could continue to for a good bit longer, and this very instant is perhaps not the best time to sell. At the same time, some of today's young superstars will indeed go the Votto/Miggy/Braun/Gordon route and decline/get boring/whatever. I.e., the smart way IMO to treat this stuff as an investment - a lot of today's wax is not "hold forever" in the way that a box of 86 Fleer basketball is. And like all investments, there will be a proper time to sell. If you figure out that proper time let me know.

With baseball and football, in certain cases, I do agree with you, but that's starting up a whole other conversation.

It all boils down to what you want to collect. I know I will actually probably lose money on some of my unopened and that's ok, I enjoy it otherwise.

That's been my favorite part about collecting singles (can be said for wax too) in that if you lose on a player/product, you're not really out that much money in most cases -- especially if you were able to pickup at MSRP. However, when you win, you win BIG.

I think that's a great way to look at it. What is worth remembering is that we're also getting a great deal of entertainment out of this that we would be paying for otherwise.

I think my favorite part of this thread is the retail with the “Clearance” stickers on them. There was a while that was all I could afford to open. On one hand it’s a cool memory, on the other it’s regret I have no self control.

I bought a box of Finest Flashbacks on the secondary market for $200. I was going to leave it sealed...until it arrived in the mail. It didn’t last 30 minutes! It was a fun rip and more than doubled my money. But I still wish I had a sealed box...but then I would open it also...nevermind.

Here's my addition to the thread. I have a bit more, but this is what I got out for the photo.

Haha...thanks! The Prizm is 18/19 and the Optic is 19/20. The single 18/19 cello pack I found at a Meijer store about a year later on discount for $10 or something. Grabbed that right up and said thank you very much...

Have a question for any of you who strictly collect/invest in unopened wax and don't have any singles/sets etc. For me, the major part of card collecting is displaying/showing off some of my better or favorite cards to friends(or whoever will indulge me) and occasionally looking through my favorite cards/sets.

As a strictly unopened collector/investor, do you display or look through your unopened product from time to time, or is it more just the investment side where you can just put them away and wait for the right time to sell?

I ask this out of respect, because a lot of the stashes on here I am very impressed and jealous of, but for me I couldn't just do that side of the hobby, I would need to have the singles side, or I'd go nuts wondering what was in those boxes. Thanks for any replies.

Here's a perfect case of tough unopened products but nothing inside them that would light the world on fire. They may not look like much at first glance but many of these are O-Pee-Chee boxes, which are damn near impossible to find for some of these releases. Believe it or not, the He-Man boxes are probably the most in-demand out of all of them. I have no idea why.

I know they're nonsport but I thought it might be good to show some cool unopened that people here wouldn't be tempted to open. Just another one of my shelves...

Well, I have individual boxes on a shelf and they are art to me. I love looking at them. Sure, the sealed cases are rather boring and more strictly for investment only. But there is definite aesthetic visual appeal to looking at individual boxes on a shelf.
