First Buzz: 2023 Donruss Optic football cards

I just opened my 4 Target fat pack orders of 3 each. They were all packed loose. They put in a flat sheet of packing paper maybe to check a box but did nothing.

Not sure if this is better or worse than them packed in a plastic bag with a rubber band.

. Target is notorious for this. They shipped my topps baseball and Donruss football sets in a similar manner. Sucks!

My target by work had 12-card fat packs. Some were in the white display box while others had the extension on top and hung from a peg.

Was tempted but didn't buy any. Would only be chasing a Stroud. Might as well just buy it off eBay instead of trying my luck with 2-3 packs.

Will the price of Downtown singles (retired players) go down as hobby and more of retail boxes become available? Feel like Panini is going to over prints these case hits to make the product stay attractive.

Optic fat packs are the one format to run from like the plague. I am not saying blasters/megas are especially good or that hobby/fotl isn't massively overpriced, but you will at least likely have fun ripping the other formats. Fat packs traditionally have had a green velocity every few packs and a silver roughly every other pack. You run serious risk of all base plus a random insert in opening each one.

I was going to scoop up half a case, if able, assuming this would be $29.99, or even at $34.99. I'll pass at the full reseller price.

With that said, I don't understand why all blasters from the more coveted sets aren't priced at or closer to this. People have proven they will pay those prices on the resale market for years at this point. They can always drop the price in a week or so if they don't move well too.

In fairness to the crooks at Panini, these being the old Fanatics exclusive boxes now branded "Hobby Blasters", they have always been either 49.99 or 59.99 the past few years.

Tried to get a few. Got the busy site message for about 10 minutes. Finally got to checkout-- and more spinning logo, until I got an error message and was kicked off.

He meant he got 10 hobby blasters. Which means he spent $600 plus tax on theoretical chance of 50% at hitting a Downtown, assuming they are still a blaster case hit at 20 blasters a case. Not very many of the Downtowns will even be worth that much. Maybe only CJ and AR. Better hope you get all the right guys on the parallels too, I guess. It doesn't add up. And I don't even rip for money, just for fun, but the money equation can get so far out of whack like with this that I feel so annoyed at that aspect of the hobby that the fun of potentially ripping these is sucked out too.

I bought a raw Stroud Holo in hopes of grading for 200 ish. Doesn't loom great. Still they seem very rare for those who care. My purchase was simply to flip after grade.

The vast majority would say Prizm is the Chrome equivalent.

But I always saw Optic as that considering it is the Chrome to their flagship (Donruss). Only a year or two more of this before it is all over, thankfully.
