I picked up some uncut sheets including this one. This is a spectra etch type sheet. Curious if any 90s SW experts could tell me more about it- rarity etc. Not in my wheelhouse as much.

Edit: another question I have is- is this an uncut sheet of uncut sheets (“uncut sheet-ception”) or uncut sheet of the actual chase cards. Since there seem to exist 6-panel (promos?) of the SW Galaxy on eBay, plus based on the arrangement of these….im leaning toward the former- “uncut sheet-ception”, but not 100% on that.

Of all on-the-real-tho' prose thrillaz, I personally enjoy the rachet variety the most.

Pretty sure that's a uncut sheet of the actual inserts themselves, and the 6 card panels a few sellers have are just cut from a larger uncut sheet like the one you have. Topps did issue an uncut sheet of chase foil puzzle cards (as a dealer incentive and also with a redemption card found in packs) from the Star Wars Finest set from the same era, but I don't remember them doing anything like that with Star Wars Galaxy.

The complete image was issued as a pull out poster in a Star Wars Galaxy magazine. I believe it was all 18 cards comprising the trio of 6 card puzzle sets in Galaxy 1, 2, and 3, all drawn by Walt Simonson. All three linked up from series to series and the cards were numbered 1-18. There is a different version of the initial 6 cards in Holofoil as opposed to etched foil. They were issued in the SW Galaxy 1 Millennium Falcon factory set. Same goes with the Series 2 set (#7-12) in the SW Galaxy 2 Tin set, but unfortunately no factory set was ever issued for SW Galaxy 3, so there's only the pack-issued etched foil version of cards #13-18.

Huh…never knew there was a different Holofoil of these chase cards, that’s interesting. I just checked eBay and I see what you mean with the Holofoil pattern…definitely looks different so I know the ones on this sheet are the etched foil ones. These chase cards are pretty cool and a whole 18-connected image would be neat. Great info.

I did an eBay terapeak search of “Star Wars Galaxy uncut sheet” going back 3 years and didn’t see a single example that looked like this, a full sheet. So thought it might be kinda rare. The 6-up panels are odd- what the origin would be..theres no shortage of them. I suppose could be cut from sheets but that many people taking scissors to an uncut sheet? And you’d think we see more full sheets interspersed with the 6-panels.

I used to carry that poster with the full image to Comic-Con every year and I finally ran into Simonson to get his nifty "dinosaur" signature on it. It was folded to fit in the polybag with the magazine which I think is the only way it was ever issued. I probably haven't looked at it 20+ years, but I am glad to have it.

That sounds awesome, should post it sometime, would be cool to see it. I didn’t immediately turn up anything searching for an 18-card Star Wars galaxy poster…curious to see an example of that

I'm not sure what issue it is, but the magazine didn't last long, maybe a year, and I don't think any of them are particularly hard to find, although they tended to be loaded with premiums (ashcan comics books, promo cards, and the like), so a few might be a bit tougher than others. I'll see if I can dig it out next time I'm up there.

I'm learning something ...
Every card variant in Marvel Annual has a different printing plate set?
How many total printing plates does that mean?

One of my favorite TV shows from the 90's was American Gladiators, and my favorite gladiator was Ice.

I recently picked up a couple of these IP autos and was curious about the authenticity.

So I decided to reach out to her directly on Instagram, and she replied to my DM!

Another uncut sheet pickup…DC this time. Gonna get this framed but gonna wait on that. Hologram sheets are great

Took me a little bit to place these but they’re actually not trading cards…rather were holos put onto Robin II comics in the 90s. Would also explain why the back of this uncut sheet is blank.

Try to explain this to someone who does not collect cards —
a UFC fighter’s signature is worth five dollars …
but if he draws a smiley face on a Vee Friends card it’s worth over $800

It's a great looking sheet, and you're right about sticker versions of those cards being placed on the comic book covers, but your sheet is, in fact, made up of actual trading cards.

Each of the Robin comics in that monthly miniseries had multiple covers sold singly, but also in a bagged sets collecting all of each month's covers. Each of the 4 bagged sets came with one trading card, which were blank-backed. I dutifully purchased them all month-by-month, to not miss a card, although I needn't have worried as at the end of the series, a box set was released that included all 14 comics (MSRP: $1 to $1.50 each) and all 4 cards in a reusable slipcover box for $30.

Nearly 35 years later, those (and the bagged sets, which varied in price due to different amounts of comics in each) remain widely available at retail price or less, although the box sets were limited to 25,000, which, at the time, was not enormously high. Those Robin miniseries (there were 3 in all) were very heavily printed, in large part due to the original one from earlier in 1991 being the first Robin solo title ever, and selling very, very well right out of the gate. The third and final Robin miniseries followed in late '92 and that one's gimmick was motion covers. (Issue #1 of the first miniseries had a bound in pinup/poster.)

The Batman/Joker images also made it onto a hologram pin set around that time, with 10 pins (in a ratio of 6 Batmans to 4 Jokers) on a nifty Bat-logo shaped backer card with a suggested retail price of $2 per pin.

Awesome info jdandns. Had no idea they were also trading cards included in polybagged/box sets. Indeed it looks like an uncut sheet like this would have been made into those cards. I found one on eBay that looks like the sealed month’s pack:

Pretty cool they made the holos into pins too!

I still have a sealed pin display. In fact, the one shown is mine, with the image from a flat-bed scanner.
It's wrapped in plastic as issued so the pins are nice, but the Bat-logo backing card, despite being printed on thick cardboard, has plenty of sharp die-cut edge points that are subject to damage from handling and storage, which shows easily as the board is black, so a truly mint one would be hard to find. Even so, they're not particularly rare with a half-dozen or so being available on Ebay at any given time.
