Why wasn't that a safety? The player never kneeled down nor was he standing on the line. He just tossed the ball to the ref. Don't think I have ever seen that before....

Did the ref signal touchback? If he did, then it wouldn't be.

I think he blew the play dead as a touchback just as the player was beginning to throw the ball to him. Of course once it is blown dead at that point nothing can be done, but it shouldn't have ever been blown dead. Unless is there a rule that states if a players remains in the endzone for a period of time its considered voluntarily giving himself up?

Good question, I'm sure it will be brought to the attention to the crew by the league when the refs watch the tape.
