I’d like to see Robin Ventura make it to the set as a White Sox

I would think White Sox fans would like to see a Jermaine Dye card as he's their WS MVP. He really is an interesting case for deciding which card. He has pretty consistent years and numbers with the Royals, A's & White Sox. I think White Sox would be the right call.

Shawn Green and Fred McGriff were both ones I was surprised in the choice. Obviously, both had some great years on the Blue Jays but I personally would have chosen Dodgers for Green and Braves for McGriff. Maybe since those franchises have so many players to choose from they wanted to switch it up?

John Olerud would be another one I wouldn't be surprised to see featured someday as a Blue Jay even though I personally would prefer Mariners.

It's fun thinking about guys who were a part of so many teams and trying to determine which one they should feature on.

Not sure what Topps has against the Washington Nationals. Only the Nats and Astros had no TLS cards in 2024, and the Nats didn't have a card in 2023 either. In fact, the last Nationals player released for the TLS was CJ Abrams in August 2022. One could say that the Nats have had a lack of worthy candidates during that period, but there have been plenty of non-stars from other teams added the set. For example, 2024 was a great year for the Oakland A's in the TLS (if nothing else). We have some promising young pitchers like Jake Irvin and Mitchell Parker, and hitters like Jacob Young who could have been included. I assume we will see Dylan Crews and James Wood in 2025 but that doesn't eliminate the slight.

I knew the Astros weren't featured in 2024 but didn't realize the Nationals haven't had a player in almost 2 and a half years. I definitely think each team should have at least one player, if not two, featured a year. The Rockies just had two players close together so hopefully your Nats have the same soon. I think it definitely hurts the Nats, as far as representation in the set, that they don't really have a retired player pool to pull from either pretty much as all the retired stars of that franchise are Expos.

1. Eddie Gaedel
2. Oscar Gamble in cap, circa 1975
3. Bill Ripken, inscription on the bat knob artfully obscured
4. Don Mossi
5. Billy Bean
6. Mark Fidrych
7. Nick Adenhart
8. Armando Galarraga (w/ some kind of "perfect" Easter Egg)
9. San Diego Chicken
10. and something like 75 more Dodger players
(list to follow)

This assumes that Topps/Fanatics:

A) is competent
B) cares

Both very questionable assumptions.....

Dick Allen's team can go in a few directions when his time for a card comes.
Maybe they can do the Sox retired numbers:

2 Nellie Fox

3 Harold baines -has a card

4 Luke appling

9 minnie Minoso

11 Luis aparicio - has a card

14 Paul konerko - has a card

16 Ted lyons

19 Billy pierce

34 frank thomas - has a card

56 mark buehrle

72 Carlton Fisk - has a Red Sox card

Here’s hoping for a dick Allen white Sox card though.

Dye was a solid player. Would certainly love to see him in the set as a pale hoser.
If the living set did action shots, I would love aj pierzynskiand the dropped third strike.

I’m
Certainly a fan of retired players with multiple cards. Nolan Ryan, babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, et all

I'm hoping Aaron's second inclusion does open the door for more multiples of the greats who had significant time with multiple teams. I feel like we're getting to the point where doing that once in a while definitely will help keep names that people are excited to see coming through the pipeline. Maybe one every two to three months so that there are still plenty of first time appearances.

I'm ok with putting some time in between repeat appearances for retired players...2-3 years...even 5 years...just give us the opportunity to fill out some rosters...what is a Cubs team set without Greg Maddux? It sucks to say "yeah, that guy got a Braves card already, we'll never see a Cubs card for him...at least we got Craig Kimbrel...that was important".

I definitely think there should be a gap in time for the individual player. Maybe the only exception being if a new player was featured on two teams in the same week going forward (It would have to be a really big named player who equally played for two teams, I feel like most I would want to see are actually already featured once in the set). Now that we're about to start year 8 there are plenty of retired guys who would fit the criteria of being 3+ years since being featured so it does seem like the right time to do it.

Will be interested to hear what group thinks this week. I’m guessing happy with 1 pick (I was) and 1 more controversial.

Thanks for your tireless work for the group Jake 🫡

Always fun to get major award winners in the set. R.A. Dickey definitely had one of the more bizarre careers where he struggled for the entire 00s then turned into a solid starter at the age most guys start declining leading to a solid 8 year run with one great season sandwiched in there to nab his CY.

I figured we'd get a Jazz in a Yankees uniform eventually. Not one for me but I'm sure Yankee collectors are happy.

Feels like we start getting the new year Rookies around Spring Training so imagine we'll start seeing one RC shield a week starting sometime next month. As fun as it is to get the exciting rookies, I do feel like they get a little heavy handed with them at times. It's nice to see a run of retired players/current veterans.

As always, the artwork is amazing for both cards. I don't buy all the cards, but the talented work makes it hard to pass on the ones I don't grab.

I popped over to the Baseball page...since the TN&TLS page is fairly dead....saw that Bob Uecker passed away.

Player card and broadcaster card in the same week?

I always associated him with Cardinals for "playing career" but really no standout year with any team. It's obviously a stretch for a player card and he would have acknowledged that!

If there were to be broadcaster cards, he would certainly be up for a card eventually.

I don't necessarily think broadcaster cards are needed...just throwing this out there based on yesterdays post about player being featured twice in one week.

OK, back to work...carry on.

RIP Bob.

You can never go wrong featuring a major award winner in the set. The R.A Dickey card and the pose with the knuckle ball is a great choice.

That's not good. As much as I never want to see a living set card that low it's good for set collectors long term.

It also serves as a reminder for Topps to keep going with the legends, greats, and fan favorites.

...and maybe a bundle too.

Eventually a card will go under 1000 sooner rather than later.

I don't want to speak it into existence but...eventually some idiot is going to decide that colored border parallels are necessary.

Tovar is a decent player though and worthy of a card...sure he is a Rocky...don't hold that against him...Rockies fans, all 6 or 7 of them, need love too. I was surprised he didn't get a RC card.

I was also surprised he didn't get an RC card. Especially because he was features in all the big inserts that year...Expose, Let's Go, Homefield Advantage, Radiant Rookie, etc.

I think the combination of the time of year and the increase in price due to losing the bundle definitely affected the print run some. I imagine the loss of the bundle will have a negative impact on print runs outside of the most popular players/largest rookies.

Glad I have my three Tovar's on the way!
