That's the issue. It's easy to forget the Nationals had 10 cards in the first 200. And you have to consider that recent selections Grace, Grove, Griffey Sr., Valenzuela, and Oliver all predate the Nationals - compared to those teams, you have to include three additional cards from the franchise since Abrams (Raines, Alou, and Alou). The good news is Wood and Crews are 100% guaranteed cards this year.

The strongest candidates are popular RC-eligible players and big free agent signings. Unfortunately the Nationals haven't had either for the last few years. As the set progresses, other teams will end up in this position too.

A Lane Thomas card was issued after he left the Nats (when he had been a Guardian for about 20 minutes). Some decent rookies from last year include Jacob Young (starting OF), Jake Irvin, Mitchell Parker, and I am sure I could fine a few more over the last 3 years.

Interesting development on when you hit a black bio text card, they now let you know in the packing list. Not sure how long it's been this way as I haven't hit one of these in forever:

Sure wish they treated the SSP's more gently as the edges on this one are pretty busted lol

Nice touch. I’ve never been lucky enough to get black bio hit & have been collecting since the very beginning. Hope your luck continues.

Well they've only been in play since card #595 Willie Randolph but I have noticed that ordering a 20 pack does seem to truly increase your odds ... well, that's been my suspicion ordering different amounts of cards. The picture was a wild 20 card bet on Lowder being good (well, more like the Reds being good this year).

I'm still not sure how I feel about black bio text. It sucks to taint the set with chase cards but kinda neat that it fits into the original printing disparities so ...

I wonder how they do this type of thing in the facility. I kind of assumed they dealt the packs randomly so even the workers packing stuff wouldn't know but here it clearly shows what you're getting with the hit. I wonder if they'll do this for Topps Now as well. I usually just chuck these order sheets and never look at them but I'll check now.

For what it's worth, someone recently told me they ordered one card and got a black bio text parallel. The explanation from Topps has been that parallel distribution is randomly predetermined across the print run, regardless of order size. For example, if you want to buy 20 cards, there is no advantage to placing two 10-card orders, or vice versa.

The other change is the parallel replaces a base card now. You used to get 21 cards with a parallel but now it's 20 total.

Topps Now used to list all the parallels individually on the packing list, with the colors of the parallel(s) specified, but they stopped doing that at some point. I haven't received any parallels this year so I don't know if they went back to doing it again.

I know what topps says ... but for Project 70, I calculated the odds that I would end up with zero 1/1 gold cards and the odds were impossibly small. I definitely think that was an instance where ordering 10 was the same odds as ordering 1 -- despite what Topps claimed.

I’ll have the new cards post up some time this evening.

I’m headed to Sutter Health Park for the Cubs-A’s game this afternoon.

I’ve begun working on adding the Dugout Quiz Q&A to my spreadsheet. Please let me know if there’s any other info or stat you would like to see.

It seems the release delays are becoming the norm. It used to be nice to have a consistent release time each week (always within a couple of hours). If Topps doesn't care enough to put in the effort, they shouldn't be surprised if collectors lose interest.

At least we have Jared's sneak peek available. One team collector is going to be happy.

The Nationals are finally back on the board!

While I feel like they have been heavy on the A's the last few months I do love Chavez' inclusion in the set. I feel like he and Kirk Gibson duke it out for best player without an All-Star appearance.

Obviously I am happy that Topps finally broke their ridiculous streak of not releasing Nationals players. Whoever is running this program for Topps must be a huge Athletics fan. I can't find a link for the portrait of Wood and I don't see a picture above. If anyone has a link to the Wood portrait I would appreciate seeing it.

They haven't posted it yet.

Once they do, I will update the original post and let you know.

That Chavez is perfect. Amazing artwork and exactly the type of player who should be included in this set. Great job!

Yes. They do this for topps now. Just got a Matt Shaw /10 with the line item “lucky hit”

Previously they had the parallels as seperate line items, but you got those in addition to the base.
