Same here with yard sales. In three weekends I've found more profit at yard sales than I did all winter at thrift stores.

Yeah the sales I have hit this year have been awesome with the economy being very shaky people are more worried about making ends meet than getting best prices.

It's primetime for garage sale season here but I haven't been out over the past three weekends due to traveling and work commitments. My wife did go out for me last weekend and got a bunch of stuff. She got roughly 35-40 fishing reels for $40 and a couple old Coleman lantern that always sell well.
Just to chime in what others were saying....In my mind, garage sales are, by far, the best for getting good deals. Most garage sales around here are held by people that want to get rid of stuff and thus the prices are usually fantastic. A tier below that are estate sales. This is because they are run by companies that usually know what stuff is worth and price items accordingly. Way way way below that are thrift stores. Their pricing has gotten so comical that I rarely even go anymore. Last time I went, one had an old rusted Coleman stove priced at $50. It's the same stove that regularly sells for $35 in pristine condition. |

Had a good yard sale day myself.
![]() ![]() ![]() Picked up all 3 of these for $1.75. The Canon I’ve tested and it works perfectly and seems to sell pretty easily for $150-$200 in used condition. It also came with a 2GB SD card and the case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The Dell Axim, love it. The OG pocket PC along with the Compaq iPaq. I still have an Axim foldout keyboard attachment floating around in a tech parts bin along with countless cables, adapters, and power bricks that I'll never use. |

That's pricing I have been seeing at many sales. I have also noted less competition with buyers. Not as many resellers out there. Like the sale I described I made that buy at 430pm it would have normally been picked over more than it was by then. |

I bought a few expired printer cartridges brand new at a garage sale with like 40 pokemon cards for 5 bucks. I made my money back on the Pokemon singles alone since 4 or 5 go for 2-5 each adn the rest go for one dollar. But the expired print cartridges even the ones from 2016 sell pretty well. Why do they sell so well even if expired.

Didn’t find anything crazy today…but did pick up a bucket of old ornaments for $2 and found these:
![]() Vintage tin ornaments from Germany. Pretty cool! Not crazy by any means but $5-$10 each seem to be the value. Good buy for $2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by N8theGR8; 05-27-2023 at 05:46 PM. |

Every year is a new "year of" for me. This year so far at sales it is the year of the cameras. For my mom it is the year of Pampered Chef Stoneware. I have found at least 10 good cameras. I haven't sold them all yet but they will all sell. Been paying $10 and under for them. The best one I have found I paid $1 for and sold for $120. I forget what I found a lot of last year but 2 years ago it was the year of the Wiis. I kept finding them. What do you keep finding a lot of this year/last year that sells good?

I've been looking for a side hobby for both me and my wife. I do sportcards but she has no interest in doing that with me. Something that we could do together but also turn a profit to either put back into more items or just put aside for mad money when we want it.
She does sell clothes/shoes/etc....whatever we don't wear anymore and she seems to enjoy that. I get that the margins can and will come based off the time/energy/effort you put into it but do you guys do enough to really make it worth while? Do you make substantial money? We both have full time jobs so not looking to make it another full time job. Difficult question to ask without just saying...."How much you guys clearing a year doing this? Is this your full time job?" So many options antiques, electronics, clothes, glassware, video games......

I work a full time job and just do this for fun so I just hit yard sales when I see them and go to a few thrift stores now and then. I don't make "substantial" money but I make a nice profit after taxes and fees so it's definitely worth it to me. It is 100% a side hustle that you do have to commit some time to but there is no need to make it another full time job if you don't want to. Margins just depend on how cheap you can find things. Yard sales will 99.999% of the time give you much better profits but you will need to have at least some knowledge about a wide variety of things. Forget focusing on hot stuff like video games as there were at least 5 people at the sale before you asking about games. Go through this thread and see what people are picking up to give you a good idea of some outside of the box high profit items. Good luck!

Key is don't go looking for those homerun items look for the good sellers that at least double your money quickly consider also things like shipping costs and storage space. Do this and the bigger items will always present themselves eventually. |

Can anyone tell me exactly what this? i got it for about $.25 cents at an estate sale and i know (or assume) it is some kind of sander. On the handle it's stamped Hunt Wilde Corporation. There's no model number that i can find. Any help would be appreciated.
