Luka brought me into the basketball market. Having said that, has there ever been another player in history that has garnered this much attention without having won anything significant? I’m not saying he won’t win multiple championships, I’m just wondering if people aren’t putting the cart before the horse just a little bit in this case...

For example, Mahomes was +400/+450 depending on the book in August. At the same time his Prizm Silver PSA 10 was $8K.

Instead of buying the card, you could have laid money on him and it’s looking like a $20K profit if you hedged at this point. Had you bought the Prizm silver, you’d be even.

Yes, but it’s like buying options vs stocks. Bigger return possible, but bigger risk too. And you don’t have to worry about time.

He may be more like Westbrook and Harden than most people want to admit but the similarities are there and very real.

Here’s the difference, Luka has all the good things those two have with none of the bad, he’s a team player who wants to win not to pad his stats and legacy.... his stats and legacy will be a by product of trying to win not the other way around.

His cards are more valuable because he is more collectible, he’s; white, has international appeal and is likable. None of which Harden or Westbrook could ever say.

And yes that is the order I would rank them in as far as weight on his collectability... as dumb as it sounds him being white makes a big difference as there are a large portion of the world that wants to see someone similar to them be a superstar at this level. This is something that has been missing for a few decades and can drive the love of the game and the dream of playing in the NBA for a whole new generation of white kids around the world.

With the money people are sinking into Luka I can understand the overreacting The Mavericks are not winning a title anytime soon yet his prices command championship level play. Him sustaining his prices will command him to get a triple double every nite or score 40 so when’s he’s off this is what happens

For sure. You and Khal are dead on with the risk vs. reward.

I guess when I look at this stuff (not just Luka, mind you) and see we are already baking in MVPs and Titles into his card prices, that it just makes sense to me to drop that money on the odds instead of a Prizm Silver.

Like I pointed out with Mahomes above, any card you could have bought in August before the season (I used the Prizm Silver) wouldn’t have turned the same profit had you of laid the same money on his MVP odds. You can hedge right now for $20K guaranteed profit if you would have dropped a Prizm Silver on Mahomes for MVP. I suspect Luka will be the same as Mahomes (not MVP all but locked but hedging for profit).

I’m also a degenerate gambler who enjoys betting AND cards. The gambling on stuff like this allows me to buy the cards.
