Maybe tomorrow. Day after WS. I am not one to assume that prices go up based on signing rumors, but this is a big, big one.

In contrast, you can hear a pin drop right now when it comes to Ohtani since everything that can be said has been said 50x over since most teams are gagged. Dodgers need pitching, but they really need a reason for fans to be excited after bad exits two seasons in a row. It really paints Sho as the savior to carry them out of the rut. It would frankly be a failure for them not to reel Sho in.

Has there ever been a player in the past sign somewhere different in the offseason to cause prices to jump significantly?

I'm failing to see why the needle on his cards would move up so much just from moving across town during the offseason. Also, considering it is known he won't be pitching this year so his MVP chance is a lot smaller.

It's all about the noise level. We're about to go from dead quiet, to potential unanimous MVP, and every station talking and stalking Ohtani's destination. Ohtani prices on average have gone down 30% across the board (more for base, less for high end) since an unceremoniously quiet close to his season. Not saying base cards reach the moon or BC batting gets back to stupid $1K levels, but at least some movement is due.

Going into a season from a team that has no clue whats its doing to a team that has proper scouting and analytics should help his game immensely, would love to see how he does batting all year.

Free agency begins five days after the conclusion of the World Series, so I'm assuming the Angels will have a 5 day window to work with Ohtani before he hits the open market.

Back in 2017 Shohei announced his decision to join the Angels on 12/8, so hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

This feels like the 2010 summer of Lebron all over again.

Depends on which Babe Ruth they are talking about.
If it's the home run king who outslugged whole teams, not really comparable.
If it's the elite two-way player who's the biggest star at the MLB level, then yes absolutely.

But like Trueblue said, there's only one Shohei Ohtani. He has already surpassed Babe Ruth when it comes to being a two-way player, but no one will have an overall career like Babe probably ever again, so no need to keep comparing the two. (Although when you are being compared to the Babe and living up to it, that's pretty badass.)

This is a really good interview, thanks for sharing. He speaks glowingly of Shohei's work ethic.
